PRESEASON TEAM REPORT

COACH TEDFORD ANNOUNCES OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR CHANGE!!

When Coach Ludwig decided to leave Cal and take the OC job at San Diego State under new Head Coach Rocky Long, Coach Tedford knew he wanted someone with some previous expierence.

The man he decided to hire was non other then former Boise State Head Coach and Colorado Buffalo Head Coach Dan Hawkins.

Coach Tedford "I am extremely excited about the hiring of Coach Hawkins. He brings a wealth of knowledge to the Offensive side of the ball and should help develope our Offense into one of the nation's best"

STARTING QUARTERBACK JOB IS WIDE OPEN

The Cal Bears are very deep at the Quaterback position and with the hiring of new OC Dan Hawkins, the Starting job is wide open for the taking. Senior Kevin Riley has the inside track but will be pushed by RS SO Beau Sweeney and RS FR Allan Bridgford.
SR K. Riley-86 Overall 74 SPD 78 AWR 90 THP 84 THA
RS SO B. Sweeney 81 Overall 84 SPD 76 AWR 86 THP 82 THA
RS FR A. Bridgford-79 Overall 82 SPD 68 AWR 84 THP 84 THA
RS JR B. Mansion-76 Overall 64 SPD 70 AWR 88 THP 80 THA
JR Z. Maynard-77 Overall 74 SPD 72 AWR 84 THP 78 THA (Redshirt)

HAWKINS CALLS RB S. VEREEN AND WR M. JONES IMPACT PLAYERS

When asked who was going to need to step up and be impact players in his new Offense, Coach Hawkins was quick to point the finger to RS JR RB Shane Vereen and JR WR Marvin Jones.

Coach Hawkins "This is Vereen time to shine. He proved he can be a bigtime back, backing up J. Best, now is his time to show he can be the man. We have a great WR core with alot of young talent in Freshman's K. Allen, T. Carter, S. Hagan, and K. Clay, but the key to our passing game will be JR Marvin Jones proving he is among the nations best WR"

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!

With the hiring of Coach Hawkins, the Offense has gotten most of the pub, but it's actually the Defense that will make or break the Cal Bears this year. With 6 Seniors starting, the Bears have alot of expierence.

SR DT D. Hill (86 Overall)
SR LOLB K. Browner (78 Overall)
SR MLB M. Mohammed (93 Overall)

Re: XBOX360 BOARDMEMBERS ONLINE DYNASTY

WEEK 1

CAL LOSES RB S. VEREEN FOR 4 WEEKS

The Week 1 win over San Jose started out as a costly one. Star RB Shane Vereen was lost to a injury in the 1st Quarter and will miss the next 4 weeks. Orginally slated to Redshirt Sophomore Isi Sofele came into the game in the 2nd Quarter and dazzled Cal fans scoring 3 TD's including runs for 60 yds and 52 yds as he rushed for a career record 235 yds on 20 carries (11.7 Avg) as the Cal Bears defeated the San Jose State Spartans 52-7.

The QB job still appears to be wide open as SR K. Riley started the game and completed 14/27 passes for 238 yds and 3 TD's in the 1st half, but his 3 INT's including 2 inside the endzone led to his benching and RS SO B. Sweeney entering the game. Sweeney started out cold throwing a INT on his 1st pass attempt, but finished strong completing 7/15 attempts for 102 yds and 1 TD.

JR WR Marvin Jones was held in check catching just 4 balls for 33 yds but did have 2 TD's including a amazing catch in the endzone outjumping 2 defenders, but the if anyone is going to take away the spotlight from Sofele performance it would be that of FR WR K. Allen. Allen would catch 11 balls fro 205 yds and score 2 TD's. Showing Cal fans that the future looks very bright in this new Dan Hawkins style offense.

Game notes

Cal host Oklahoma State(Bolts Boy123/Lingering Dust) in Week 2 before traveling to the Big House to take on Michigan (JJ4/Bugsy Da Kid)

PRESEASON TEAM REPORT

This year has been regarded as a make or break year for Coach Rich Rodriguez. He has struggled winning his first couple years at the head of Michigan's premier football program. Many say he is the reason for Michigan not being considered a top school anymore. People who defend him say despite Michigan's first ever NCAA violation, Coach Rich Rod had to deal with former Coach Lloyd Carr's recruits. Well, he's had time to bring in his own players.

There was a bit of a question as to who would start at QB at the beginning of camp. But it was soon figured Denard Robinson would be the starter as he improved tremendously over his first year. The Wolverines also plan to play every running back they have on the roster. Junior Michael Shaw will still get the bulk of the carries out of the runningbacks. Denard Robinson will most likely run quite a bit, as did Pat White when he played at Coach Rich Rod's old team, West Virginia. It's also figured Michigan will run about 60-65% of the time this season.

As for WRs Soph. Roy Roundtree, and JR's Darryl Stonum, Junior Hemingway & Martavious Odom are projected to be a big part in whatever passing game the Wolverines have.

Defensive ends Ryan Van Bergen (JR) and Craig Roh (SO) along with Defensive tackle Mike Martin (JR) look to lead the defense, which is giong to a 3-3-5 stack. Jonas Mouton, Kenny Demens & J.B. Fitzgerald will get the starts at Linebacker. Obi Ezeh, however, will still play quite a bit. For the entire depth chart, and to see the rest of the defensive starters see below.

Re: XBOX360 BOARDMEMBERS ONLINE DYNASTY

WEEK 1

Michigan Wins despite Defensive struggles

Denard Robinson lead the Wolverines to a 44-16 win. He would go 10/16 for 121 yards and 2 TDs. But he'd also rush for a 171 yards on 25 carries (6.8 AVG) to go with 3 rushing TDs.

Michael Shaw added 62 yards on 11 carries (6.2 AVG). He also caught 1 pass for 29 yards and a touchdown. Roy Roundtree led the team with 4 receptions for 47 yards. Junior Hemingway had 1 reception for 15 yards and the other TD.

Kenny Demens lead the defense with 8 tackles (6 solo). J.B. Fitzgerald added 4 tackles (4 solo) and a sack. Safety Ray Vinopal had 4 tackles (4 solo), 1 sack and 1 interception.

The Wolverines defense only gave up 16 points, but they gave up a lot of yards. A total of 375 offensive yards. 315 of those yards in the passing game. They would force 3 turnovers (2 fumbles / 1 interception) that would kill very promising Broncos drives. You take those away, the outcome of this game is very different.

All in all it was an impressive, and much needed, win for Coach Rich Rodriguez and his staff. They play Notre Dame in a rivalry game before hosting Cal.
