Official CBA Thread

I thought we could get a thread going on the possible lockout / new CBA situation and have it all in one place. What do you guys think will happen? Lockout or no lockout?

I'm in the minority that thinks they'll get something hammered out next month.

Re: Official CBA Thread

Right now I don't see a new deal being brought up anytime soon, the owners seem to be the ones who are gonna have to budge on their demands as it seems they are being the most greediest and stingiest and I just don't see them changing their minds so suddenly. It seems like a certain lock that the NFLPA won't agree to an 18 game schedule, players recently have taken very adamant stands and shots against the owners for various things recently.

It really seems that all the players want is better insurance, nothing else huge. While the owners just want to make more money without protecting these players.

Re: Official CBA Thread

I think the health insurance and percentage of revenue will be the sticking points for the CBA. The players don't want a 18-game season, but as long as they increase roster size, change rules on IR and OTA's i don't think it will be a big of a problem as some may think. Owners will budge I think because teams have alot of free agents because of this year, there is a possibility of loading up some good players at a good price.

Re: Official CBA Thread

A guy from the Sports Business Journal (or something like that) was on the radio here recently. He says there'll be a lockout but it'll be ironed out before any games will be lost. He said that during said lockout the league will lose 2 Billion dollars!

The implication is that OTAs and some training camp time will be cut short due to the lockout though.

Re: Official CBA Thread

Well for the players atleast missing OTAs and some Training camp might not be a big deal for them, they can work out all they want and if they desire I'm sure they could just get together somewhere

I agree with this. I think they both know the crazy amount of backlash that's going to happen if the NFL doesn't have a season. And I think the NFL knows it's going to hurt them more than it'll hurt the players, the players can easily go up to the CFL and they know it's possibly coming anyways, so they're likely saving up their money right now to be able to get by (mostly for the less well-paid players) if the season doesn't happen. On the other hand, the NFL is going to be getting essentially no money without games, advertisements, radio, etc.

So I'm hoping the NFL caves soon, because the players have some legitimate complaints, and I hope there's no 18 game season.

Re: Official CBA Thread

It might go to the 23rd hour, but a deal will get done. The question is when is the 23rd hour: is it before the current deal expires? Before training camp? Before the start of the regular season?

I only hope that it remains a 16 game schedule. Injuries are one thing, but hell, the schedule is perfect the way that it is. Don't go screwing with a good thing. Here's to hoping the players stick to their guns...(yes I'm siding with the players).
