Its time for a new type of quarterback in the NFL

The days of the Tom Brady's and Peyton Manning's dominating defenses in the are done, especially in the playoffs. In this day and age you can not win with pure pocket passers, you have to have a mobile quarterback. Defenses are too fast and are blitz happy now a days.
I was just watching the New England v. Jets game today, and it was pitiful to see Tom Brady just sit back there like a statue and take those sacks. Aaron Rodgers would have gotten away from most of the sacks, and he would have ran or bought more time on the plays where Tom was sacked because of good coverage.
Just look at the QB's remaining in the playoffs..... Aaron Rogers, Big Ben, Jay Cutler, and Marc Sanchez, who escaped out the pocket in the first half of the game today and threw a big first down to Braylon Edwards to setup a score.
So if Im drafting a QB, mobility would be at the top of my list, I would draft a Cam Newton and coach him to move the pocket while keeping his eyes down the field. These are my observations during these playoffs, if you wanna win championships you have to have a mobile QB.

I knew before I entered this thread there would be a Cam Newton bomb somewhere in the OP...

No, Tom Bradys and Mannings, Brees etc will always have priority.

Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady (x3), Eli Manning, Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer all beg to differ. And that's just this past decade...

And yet the 3 best QB's in the league are pocket passers, have 5 rings combined, 6 MVP's, and 7 SB appearances.....

This is pretty laughable.

Brady just finished the season with 36 TDs and 4 INTs. I'm no Brady fan, but he's the best QB in the league. He didn't have his best day today, but that happens.

They said all of this when Vick was drafted as well. Wasn't it Stephen A. Smith who said basically the same thing? Manning and Brady would be the old type of QB while Vick was the future in the NFL... This was nine years ago.

Not much has changed.

It really all depends on how good your O-Line is and the play calling for a pure pocket passer. Route running helps too.

Re: Its time for a new type of quarterback in the NFL

Also... this "new type" of quarterback that you speak of... Will he win a Super Bowl this year?

Mark Sanchez
Ben Roethisberger
Jay Cutler
Aaron Rodgers

One of the above QB's will win the SB this year. All are your prototypical drop back passers. Rodgers is pretty mobile, but I don't see him being this new QB that you speak of.

They look nothing like this "new type" of QB you speak of. The "new type" of QB was put out in the first round.
