Manual or Auto Substitutions

I usually just use Auto Subbing and the reason for it is because I want to make sure my players get around the minutes they are supposed to get according to my Rotation. However I wanted to maybe try manual subs, but how do you guys handle the minute distribution?

Do you just keep checking their minutes in the "Box Score" section? Do you just watch their energy levels? Do you sub out players that are shooting bricks and missing every shot they put up?

I'm curious as to how some of you veterans use manual subbing in your games where you sub in your bench realistically.

Re: Manual or Auto Substitutions

What I do is edit my "situationals" and disregard the current setup. I just set them in different tiers, to keep some of the starters/better players on the court at all times.

For example:

1. Starting Lineup

2. Starting PG, Backup SG, Starting SF, Backup PF, Starting C

3. Backup PG, Starting SG, Backup SF, Starting PF, Backup C

4. Backup PF, Starting SF, Backup SF, Starting PF, Backup PF

etc. Not exactly how I do it, I usually try to match up different combinations and whatnot and make sure everyone who I want to get minutes is in at least one situational. Then I just rotate thru those in the game based on fatigue. But I'll manually switch one person out specifically if they're real tired or completely cold

Manual only. I never ever liked the way the computer subs in any NBA video game.

Re: Manual or Auto Substitutions

Manuel only.

I have a set rotation for the most part unless match-ups dictate to stray from it. A perfect example is:

Starting line up

Chalmers
Wade
Lebron
Bosh
Anthony

Miller, Big Z and Haslem in at the 4 minute mark of the 1st quarter. Wade moves to point guard.

Then start of the 2nd James to the bench, Jones in, Arroyo in, Bosh back in.

5 minutes rest for Lebron then back in same for Wade. And so on and so on.

Also depends on schedule. Second night of a back to back on the road I will rest stars if the game is in hand. Or the first night of a back to back if the game is in hand I will rest my stars for the second night.

My team chemistry is at 98% going into the second round of the post season. Keeping a regular rotation and winning = very good team chemistry and lesser amount of nagging injuries.

Re: Manual or Auto Substitutions

I generally leave it on auto until like the last 5 minutes of the game or so but I'm thinking about doing manual. My only issue is that I think I'll forget and my guys will get exahusted, but the AI has given me Perkins and Shaq on the floor a lot and I just don't like it.

Re: Manual or Auto Substitutions

I leave it manual because I get really annoyed when a player is heating up and the cpu subs them out.

Re: Manual or Auto Substitutions

I have always ran with automatic substitutions. It has just seemed too tedious for me to keep up with all the manual subbing. If there is an auto sub I do not like (removing a player who is hot, for example) then I will fix that move myself. Otherwise, I'm pretty satisfied with how my subs work.
