Is this because of the new patch?

I started my 17th season with the new patch and saw the most unrealistic stat ever: Rookie QB 21 years old, rated 84, THP 98, THA 52, in first game of season throws for 431 yards (27-34), 5 TDs, QB rating of 158.3 and this was not against my team. Season stats for this amazing rookie: 3407 yards! I simmed the season after that first game to see what he would do.

Could this be because of the new patch?

You're leaving out a lot of critical information.

What were the rest of his stats for the season? Anyone can blow up for one game, and your season yardage total does not seem unreasonable for an 84 rated QB with a huge arm, especially when you consider that if you take away the first game total, he only had 2,976 in 15 games (198.4 YPG).

Also, what's his awareness? If he's a pure pocket passer with an accuracy that low, his awareness must be fairly decent, which will lead to decent numbers in the sim engine.

I don't recall his awareness but he is rated only 84. He has a strong arm but his accuracy rating is 52.

Do you know of any Rookie QB at 21 throwing for over 3000 yards in his first season? Has it ever happened in the NFL? What has Manning or Brady done? By the way, this rookie QB is on a terrible team!

Let me say this, no rookie QB in 16 seasons has ever thrown for over 400 yards in A Game in my franchise--and I've had higher rated rookie QBs with 98 THP and other guys with much higher accuracy ratings at the draft.

Re: Is this because of the new patch?

Peyton Manning Rookie Season: most completions (326), attempts (575), and yards (3,739). He also threw for 26 TDs, breaking Charlie Conerly's 50-year-old mark. Manning was one of the top QBs in the NFL, leading the AFC in passing yards and attempts.

Dan Marino: Didn't start for the Dolphins until the sixth game of the season. His debut, against the Bills: he threw for 322 yards and 3 TDs in a close OT loss. He then led the Dolphins to the playoffs, in the process becoming the first rookie QB to lead a conference in passing. He also set a rookie record with a 96 passer rating, and became the first rookie QB to start in the Pro Bowl.

Looks like whatever team drafted him found the next superstar quarterback.

Do you really believe that a Peyton Manning would be rated 52 accuracy at the draft?

This guy had over 3000 yards with 499 attempts--better than Manning. Plus, Manning was not 21 and he had 28 Int and this guy rated 52 accuracy had 12 Int. And you believe this? A player 21 rated 52 accuracy has that kind of season makes sense to you?

Re: Is this because of the new patch?

It's a video game of football, nothing more than that.

Matt Ryan also had 3000yds passing in his rookie season a few yrs ago, but I don't look over 16 seasons of a video football game to see if someone else can duplicate Ryan's numbers.

Re: Is this because of the new patch?

And Matt Ryan didn't make the Pro Bowl, either. If the guy is on a terrible team, then you can kinda expect that.

Are you getting hung up over the Qb's age or the fact that he's doing this with 52 tha? Like adembroski mentioned, what was his awareness and what did the rest of his throwing ratings look like?

And I wouldn't be too hung up on the age, either. If recent history has told us anything, it's that young QBs can come in and have success. High school passing games are more complex, summer passing camps are popping up everywhere -- all of this has accelerated the learning curve for young passers.

Either way, it doesn't seem like that huge of a deal, or even that unprecedented. I think that one guy coming out of nowhere and lighting it up is pretty cool, because you never know when the next superstar will emerge.
