Question Anyone got tips on how you stay commited/keep balance rosters in Association?

I always am good through like 5-8 games but can never make it full 82. So to combat this I'm going to switch to 29 games but my main issue is something I need some kinda tips on.

1) During FA/Drafts I always end up with players that should be starters/6th man so I end up with like 4+ role players. What kinda tips should I try to follow to avoid having too MUCH talent.

1. SIM Games
2. Find a slider set that you enjoy playing with
3. As hard as it may be RESIST the urge to sign 70+ OVR guys if they aren't going to start or be 6th men.
4. Play it realistically, if a ridiculous trade offer comes up like D. Wade for Devin Harris and Troy Murphy, and your the Nets, don't accept it.

Think like a GM! Not a guy who is trying to get a team of all 70's.

PS. A lot of people will sign young players who are easy to trade for and progress a lot, go for older guys on the decline sometimes to even it out.

EDIT: So pretty much resist trading for guys like OJ Mayo who will one day be a 90 ovr, if you have a hole at shooting gaurd and need scoring go for Ray Allen who is still effective but slowly declining. In 2K it's to easy to build a good team, you have to resist the urge.

Dont use development on ur star players use it on ur prospects
Have a plan when building a team don't just go by overall, and trade down in the draft for more picks or trade pieces if u get a top 5 pick and don't need it. I try to only have 3 top scores on a team usually my pg,pf, and sf.
Sim 82 games is a lot of time if you have anything over 8min quarters. I usually play till I secure the playoff spot or if my team is good enough sim till playoffs and then play them.

Everything samtw said

I play 82gms at 12min qtrs...but ONLY play 1gm a week(on game), so I counted and that's 25gms I'll play total. Which is less than a 29gm season and still get the benefit of playing a 82gm schedule with good stats.

Also, I changed the first round of the playoffs to be best of 5 like it used to be to speed up playoffs. Getting to the more important rounds quicker.

Edit every player in D-league to be 45yrs old and in league for 27yrs. Why? Cuz they are created ppl, and will retire after that first season. Then after that you'll be able to bring more depth in ur asslciation with having actual real players u draft etc in the d-league.

Most important thing is to just be real! Like samtw said, RESIST building a team of all 70+ ovr just cuz u can. Build ur team the right way, the way a GM would irl.

...and remember, the trade is the killer of many associations...

So pretty much don't load up an association and trade half of your team before you play one game. If you trade half your team you might as well just do a fantasy draft and pick who you want. But we all gotta trade sometimes, but when you do KEEP IT REAL.

My most recent trade for instance:

Bulls(me) Receive:
61 OVR Shaun Livingston
62 OVR Donte Greene

Kings Receive:
68 OVR CJ Watson
'11 1st Round Pick via Bobcats

Bobcats Receive:
71 OVR Jason Thompson

Notice how the highest rated player in the whole trade was a 71 OVR, and I didn't receive him.

And think through a trade. For instance in my trade the Kings starting PG tore his MCL and was out for the season, so I gave them my PG. Jason Thompson was furious with his role, so I had them trade him to the Bobcats who lack depth at PF. The Kings also recieved a 1st round pick to help them rebuild. For me, CJ Watson just wasn't getting it done so I traded for a lesser PG Livingston and SF that gives me good size in Greene.

When making trades don't do something like rondo to the jazz for jefferson and millsap. the jazz already have williams and have no need for Rondo.

One other thing lol, posting updates in here makes it more fun. Gives you a reason to keep playing, and give you another persons perspectives on your moves.

Re: Anyone got tips on how you stay commited in Association?

The salaries matched up and Beno Udrih was out for the season with a torn MCL which left the kings best remaining pg at a 61. I'm not sure if the AI is smart enough to know about trading to replace an injury but it worked. I also am not sure if they are more willing to deal someone because their morale is low because jason thompson was very mad. It was legit though, no reason to use trade override on that small of a trade anyway.

The key is making sure the salaries match up, the bulls(me) and the kings both have a lot of cap room.

You have to see the other teams needs, and trading is not easy, you have to match salaries which can be a deal breaker on some trades. Everything that has been posted in this thread is true. You hear guys complaining how everyone on their team wants minutes and how they turn off roles and chemistry, they do that because they load up their teams with a bunch of 70+ guys (minus drafted players) and just to destroy the CPU. And that's not fun winning every game by 10-20 points. The game is supposed to be hard at times. Also use the trade finder I like that, but sometimes the CPU will offer dumb trades and for the sake of keeping a real feeling association dont accept dumb trades. One last thing I keep trade override on so if the CPU does a dumb trade with the CPU then I can reverse the trade. Rebuilding bad teams is fun and very challenging at the same time.
