Position Changes

One of the offseason offline dynasty issues that bother me.. i believe that position changes are the a little troubling.. I find it very unrealistic that all of the RBs and WRs translate into such bad defensive players.. In real life most 4 or 5 star WRs are also studs on Defense in high school.. therefore they should prove to be viable options when trying to change their positions at any point in time. I like the fact that RBs/WRs are somewhat interchangable but big WRs should be able to also become TEs without such a point penalty. I know im late on this because I've had the game since July but this is pretty ridiculous. One positive on Defense though is that many times a corner or safety can become a decent LB later in their career (jr or sr). I like that idea if they're bigger players but a 185 lb cb shouldnt be able to be a 95 lb due to his size that's unrealistic to say the least. The fact that punter/kickers are interchangable is a plus but most times their ratings stay the same where there should be a little stiffer penalty for the switch. Last but not least I feel that if the game labels a recruit an ATH then they should at least come in at a decent rate on both sides of the ball or at least multiple positions on one side of the ball.. It's kinda silly how a 5 star athlete can't be converted to be decent at multiple positions on offense or defense .. just my take..

Hm...I've been able to interchange WR's and DB's before. But usually the high school WR's that were good on defense, were so b/c of their athleticism and not technique/skill (man coverage and zone coverage rating). I've had athletes that I could put @ say QB and S. Its not common though so I agree with you in the sense. I wish their were more forgiveness to switching Olinemen to Dlinemen

Re: Position Changes

The biggest issue came recently when I started up a new dynasty (hopefully will be my long term one) with my Alma Mater Texas A&M. IRL A&M's backup QB to start the year (Ryan Tannehill) was also their 3rd WR and was one of their best weapons at that position. Midway through the season this year A&M benched their starter (Jerrod Johnson) and named Tannehill the starter.

So at the beginning of this dynasty I made some roster adjustments to make Tannehill the starter and moved Jerrod to WR/TE. Ideally I had wanted to keep Jerrod as my #2 QB even though I changed his listed position in the game. Once I started the dynasty I went and looked at the Depth Chart and Jerrod was listed as my #2 QB but with a 60 AWR! This guy has played two years of QB and coming into this season he was a darkhorse (extreme darkhorse really) candidate to contend for the heisman or at least an AA QB. Apparently changing his position to WR made him forget how to play QB.

I know this is put in to combat gaming the system but it's stupid that had I left his position as QB he wouldn't have been nearly as negatively affected had I just put him at WR on the Depth Chart.

/Rant

Re: Position Changes

I understand wanting to prevent on-line dynasty players from moving guys to create unfair advantages but for the offline users this should not even be an issue. I have had athlete recruits who I placed at an offense position then moved to defense the next season to only move them right back due to the hit they take. I understand a guy may have a learning curve but by the time the season rolls around those guys are good to go.
This is why the need to fully edit players inside dynasty mode is needed. The offline users get penalized because of the on-line feature. I have found a number of players in this years game that come in at the wrong position in the first place. Looking through the roster after the first season of a dynasty I found a cpu team that had a DT (59ovr) was a 76ovr as a RT/LT. I created a coach and took that schools job before position change and moved him to RT, where there was a need, and the guy was by far the best o-line for the school. I found a few other players like this as well. There is such a need to be able to edit players as we choose. In real life players move positions during season and have an impact but in the game we have one time a season to move players and they take a hit. I know we can place a player on the depth chart but there is a issue there. Going back to the DT was only a 69ovr when placed on the depth chart at the tackle position. I decided to move him because at a 69ovr he was still better then what the school had. I was shocked when we ended up as a 76ovr.

Re: Position Changes

This is a little off the Topic of the OP but I have been frusrated with the DBs catch ratings. Like the OP said that most 4 or 5 star DBs played reciever in highschool and were very good at it or vise versa college wide outs playing DB in highschool. I have found that thesee low ratings account for all of the dropped picks. I have messed with sliders like putting them at 100 interception ratings and they still drop wide open interceptions. All of the DBs catch ratings are in the 50's which is totally unrealistic they should at least be 70 or above. I would really like to see EA acknowlegde this next year and make the DBs catch better so we dont have to deal with 5 or 6 dropped picks a game

But how many times do we see DB's drop easy picks. I think it happens more often than people realize.

You see subpar DBs drop picks which is understandable. but when you see a guy that is a great corner like Patrick Peterson you know something is wrong.

So what's closer to reality in college football, Patrick Peterson or subpar DB's?
