The Purist Sliders (12 min, Pro) v. 0.1

Edit 11/18 v. 0.4
Not recommended for post-patch play, new ones in development. In the meantime see Armor&Swords on page 25

The goal (as with all slider sets) is to create an environment that produces both realistic play-to-play results as well as game results.
I.e.
- Good teams should beat bad teams more often than vice versa.
- Good players should produce and produce realistically pertaining to % and location of shots.
- Luck should occasionally play a role
- Defense, pace, size, speed should be factors
- Fouls should be a factor
etc.

How did I come up with these sliders?

A number of ways:

- Hoopdata.com and 82games.com both track shot locations and FG % per location-- I've used these to tune tendencies and shot success rates
- Hoopdata.com tracks rebound rates- I've used these to tune rebounds
- I've played at least 100 games and watched at least 100 CPU v. CPU games-- therefore, I have seen all types of teams and players operate with these sliders in place
- Personally I started at Sim/Pro and started moving slightly in directions (for instance, down on quickness slider) that seemed necessary to make this game more realistic.
- Finally, I took all slider sets on this website whose gameplay settings mirrored or at least resembled mine (i.e. Pro or all-star level, 12 minute quarters) plugged them in a spreadsheet (my settings were plugged in three times each per slider, to weight the end result mostly toward mine), dropped both the highest and lowest setting and averaged the rest. However, a few settings are arrived at through different means (see above).

In essence these sliders are a collaboration heavily influenced by my game experience and tweaking and information seeking.

A note: I believe the best possible way to play the game is with sliders equal on both sides, so all settings are for both cpu and human.

If you choose to move to all-star level with these sliders, the shooting sliders (success when shooting from different areas: mid, close, etc.) will need to be adjusted down. I highly recommend Pro level. Police yourself. It's a video game. Like Czar says, "Play basketball". Pro is more than challenging and much more realistic. Also, remember this: players have a "draw foul" tendency (which is a spectacular addition), so rookies, lesser players, etc. will get mauled in the paint and no call will be made. This is exactly the case in the NBA. 70 gives you a nice balance of calls and no-calls with calls going to the better players (or the players with a higher draw foul rating).

As far as a lot of the issues others have been having (short of bumping on the perimeter): O-rebounds not happening, loose-ball fouls and over the back fouls not being called, no collision in the paint, etc. I have never had a problem with any of these. Since I have the same game, I'm assuming it's the level and sliders that are correcting it.

do u think these will work good with Real Player % for shooting? i wanna give these a shoot, but i wanna make sure using Real Player % for shooting doesn't mess things up.

thx

No, I haven't uploaded them. I guess I could.

I highly recommend shot stick. But, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't work on real player %.

Also, if you find these sliders makes the game too easy, move it up to All-Star. I prefer Pro. And before these sliders I was killing the computer on Pro. I just think the game plays much more realistically on Pro.

Is there still too much bumping on the perimeter? Possibly. Hand check rules have all but eliminated this in the NBA. But, this needs to be dealt with by the devs-- reach in calls should rise, defensive players should shadow and not cause contact on the perimeter or we are pre-hand check rules. When you adjust on-ball defense, defensive awareness and driving contact essentially what you are doing is altering the depth of the defensive coverage. It doesn't seem to solve the problem. The game is far from broke, but we should (hopefully with a patch) be able to find some happy medium. Altering settings can change how players defend in the post, and that's a problem. Post defense is good, but defenders on the perimeter should not be defending like post players.

Also, I rarely use Iso-Motion. Breaking a defender down can be as simple as moving the left stick quickly one way and then the other. You can create space and separation this way quite realistically.

A side note: a lot of people look to tune the game somewhere between realism and winning. Usually they err on the side of winning-- i.e. they tune the game so that they can win all the time but still call the game "realistic". Wins were not a factor when I made this sliders. I'm probably .500 since I finished them. And, my team is about a .500 team.

Re: The Purist Sliders (12 min, Pro) v. 0.1

I played 4 play now games with these sliders with different match-ups, 2 games as the road team 2 as the home team.

Really good man. I use real fg/ft% and they work just fine. Played on Pro. Very good numbers in all games. FT's were prevalent and superstars played like superstars. Scrubs play like scrubs.

I had been using JD's sliders and for the most part they are very good too but I was finding some games to be weird. I also played 35 plus games with them in Association (and made a few tweaks nothing drastic). I will give these a go for the next 35 games and see how I like them. But after 4 games I was very impressed.

Good work.

No. I am in 2022 in an association. I can't remember what roster I started with, but it was around opening night.

Thanks, brother. You never know how sliders will work out, because we all play differently. But, what you describe has generally been my experience as well. Enjoy.
