Examples of CPU Cheating...

i thought Zoneblitz had a great topic the other day talking about how some of what the CPU does is realistic and how many of us are just SORE LOSERS

that said, CPU Cheating has always been a part of NBA 2K. We all know its the easiest way to make the game "harder" and no one wants a game that is too easy, but I think it sticks out more this year because the game is so much harder and turnovers are really hurting alot of us. Secondly, with online play being so bad many of us are being forced to play offline to enjoy the game. I'm doing an article on CPU Cheating and i'd really like you guys to give me your examples. I'm going to be using alot of video (there's no substitute to being able to SEE foolishness--so link your uploads if you have any) so that hopefully that these "cheats" get resolved in the future. I'll also be listing what i perceive as some of the root issues and most of all? FIXES! Some of the things i've noticed:

1) Speed Cheat - yup. still in. you still get run down by CPU defenders unless you have a ridiculous head start. culprit: maybe the CPU has a shorter or automatic acceleration time in regards to going from stand-still to full sprint. fix? DUH. the CPU reaction time when "chasing" needs to slow down.

2. Contact Shots - the cpu shoots alot less of them. especially in the post. rarely will you get a shot in the paint up without a contact animation makign it more difficult. in three games i tracked an average of 44 contact animations in 9 minute quarters. the CPU averaged 16. culprit: again--a fast reaction time as far as shooting. we have a natural delay. fix? slow down the CPU's reaction a bit.

3. Open Shots - the CPU converts a much higher percentage. yes--even on real player percentage. hmmm...isn't that the reason we PUT our setting on real player percentage? so players will hit the shots they do in reality? culprit: a CPU release point that is probably always PERFECT. fix? fix the false advertising. make real player percentage a reality. that or vary the CPU release point to include shots that are too-early and too-late.

4. 50/50 Balls - The CPU not only recovers balls that are up-for-grabs at a too-high rate. it also recovers its own blocked shots, its own deflected passes and loose balls in general. culprit? this seemingly goes back to a faster reaction time and no need to find the ball, but in many instances our CPU defensive players fail to react as fast as the opposing CPU players, why? this may just be a CHEAT. fix? again--slow down the CPU reaction time. or develop an algorithm where the blocks/steals/deflections are recovered by the defending team at a consistent rate, say 7 times in 10--which i'm a fan of.

5. Offensive Rebounds - with the current settings i played 10 games with an Elite Team (Boston) a Solid team (Milwaukee) and a Poor team (Philadelphia) to see if the offensive rebounding by the CPU changed. NO SUCH LUCK. The CPU still won the offensive rebounding battle by a large margin (averaging 10, while i had 4) the culprit? again..that GD preternatural ability to "know" where the ball is going to be and react faster than we can. fix? for years we've been asking for a slider that works.

chime in guys, what examples have you seen?

i just dont like how the cpu can throw a full or 3/4 court pass and complete it perfectly even when i have a defender right there when there is no chance i'm completing that same pass.

6. Fastbreaks/Touchdown Passes. I have played about 40 games so far, most of them with the magic. I played mostly on allstar and superstar and won most of the games, but there was not a single game where I had more fastbreakpoints than my oppents team.

7. Turnovers. I haven't played a game (sample size above) where I had less turnovers than my opponent (there was one game on pro where the turnovers were equal). I'm happy with my turnovers, but the AI makes almost no mistakes and I consider myself at least a mediocre defender with on of the best defensive teams.

Re: Examples of CPU Cheating...

I play on Sim/All-Star.
I start at Sim settings.
I turn clutch off in the gameplay menu.
I kill both clutch sliders.
I leave everything else alone.
I still call this Sim/All-Star, even though it is "custom"
All I do is kill the clutch.

I have games where I have less turnovers than the cpu.
I have games where I shoot better than the cpu.
I have games where I out-rebound the cpu by 10+
I have games where I win by 25+ points.

And then there are some games where I have more turnovers.
And then there are some games where I shoot worse than the cpu.
And then there are some games where I get out-rebounded nasty.
And then there are some games where I lose by 25+ points.

Sometimes, it happens. Its a video game, play to win the game.

I don't care what anybody says, they cheat. Plain and simple. I'm playing on HOF, I just can't play on any other level. They have infinite speed where they can go full speed the whole court and my guy can't stay with them. Whatever the cpu drink at halftime for these dumb comebacks has to be great, cause no matter how many timeouts and shot I make the cpu always comesback no matter what. Honestly, I feel we are at the CPU mercy.

Re: Examples of CPU Cheating...

When i'm standing alone in the post and i only need to throw a quick layup or even a dunk, my guy jumps and makes this weird dance in the air giving the cpu enough time to get back on D and block the shot.

I tip a pass, my teamates look like dummasses looking for the ball. The cpu tips a pass, goes immediately after the ball.

Fast break situation, i pass the ball around the court the cpu deflects it. If it's the other way around, they pass the ball to the open man, if i don't select my guy to try and deflect the pass, he just runs along with the cpu without doing absolutely nothing...

Re: Examples of CPU Cheating...

First off let me say that I love this game and it's the best simulation of basketball I have EVER played, but with that said, the computer cheats at times.

I know it's supposed to be hard and I welcome the challenge. The only thing I have a problem with is the animations and blatant cheating.

For instance, when a computer player beats me off the dribble and then he goes for a layup in the paint only for my defender to not respond to the jump button until after the layup goes in... WTF

Same scenario, but now they will let me jump, but it's a slow motion block attempt that never even comes close. I wouldn't mind if thats how all attempts were, but this will be with a guy who has went after blocks ferociously all game. It's like it's predetermined for that guy to make the layup, no matter what I do.

Another one I hate is when I find a teammate behind the defense and he gets ready to go up uncontested, only for him to slow down and the cpu defender being sucked to him causing a block or foul.

The last one is when I drive to the hoop and right when I go to pass I get sucked into the animation where I'm dribbling for 5 seconds and it comes off my foot directly into the computer's hands.

These things are frustrating. I want to lose games and have a huge challenge just don't move my defender out of the way artificially so you can score lol.

Re: Examples of CPU Cheating...

Also, I love the computer defensive AI (when the wacky animations aren't present), but I wonder why my teammates AI is so crappy. I feel like I'm playing 1 on 5 on defense sometimes. I set to play someone tight and they will stand there and watch them shoot.
