Let's Talk Layups...

I'm playing all-star/sim, so that no doubt colors my view of this, but it seems that players are CONSTANTLY double-pumping their layups when they don't need to, and thus getting blocked waaaaay more than they should. Someone will have a clear shot at the basket, I'll press the shot stick right at it, and then for some reason, a defender will make body contact with them and they decide to go up soft and get blocked. This is super frustrating, especially after you watch the replay and see if they just went up strong, like a normal player would, they would have an easy layup.

Also...are other people missing the majority of their L2+layup moves, such as the spins, hop steps, and Eurosteps? It seems that even if I use it to properly avoid a defender, 90% of the time my guy will blow the open layup. This is also killing me right now, and destroying my shooting percentage.

Basically it seems like layups are more random this year, and I want to know how to cut down on that.

It's the sim setting. It increases the amount of contact lay ups you see

Nah, I miss most of my layups with Jordan in the challenges on Pro/Sim. I'm pretty sure he has a 99 layup rating.

Re: Let's Talk Layups...

I find that you need to do just RS layups and very rarely do the LT + RS fancier layups. Especially if you're using players that are not stars or great at finishing. Using the Knicks guards (Felton & Douglas) I use just the RS 99% of the time. I pretty much only use the LT for layups in transition. Even with MJ though, just use the RS and see the amazing stuff he pulls off and finishes.

Like you mentioned though, I initially missed a ton of LT + RS layups and any time there was contact the ball did not go in - literally 100% of the time. I haven't seen one yet with an average player. I get into trouble with Amare too sometimes when I try to dunk in traffic with RT + RS and get a contact layup animation instead. He misses those every single time as well so at least now I try to pass out of that animation every time.

I mentioned it in the impressions thread but you also get to the FT waaaaaaaay more using just RS for layups.

Re: Let's Talk Layups...

Its on the motion of the right stick move it arond as you do the layup in 2k10 it was just the trick of timing the release but in this one you have to move the stick around as your player does the animation and then stop at the same time they release the ball

Re: Let's Talk Layups...

Damn so it's really that accurate/refined?

So I have to hold the stick and release when they would, instead of just tapping the stick in the direction of the layup?

I really need to get my guys to stop double pumping and bringing the ball down low and instead just go up strong. Any tips here would also be appreciated.

I seriously doubt this.
