Re: Will Cliff Lee still be a Texas Ranger next season?

I voted no, but I'm like 51/49 on that.

I believe the Rangers will make a strong effort to keep him. But if the Yankees decide they need to have him, they probably will get him. I'm a little torn with that. With CC 2 years ago, the Yankees were going to get him no matter what, they would have topped any offer. Not sure about now. With Hal running the team instead of George, they at least sort of have a budget. I don't think they are willing to substantially raise the payroll. The year we got CC, Burnett, and Teixeira, we had a ton of money coming off the payroll. I believe we actually lowered the payroll slightly that year. This year, that isn't going to be the case.

That said, Cashman obviously really wants him. Pretty sure we didn't even offer Montero up for Halladay, but we did for Lee.

Yankees will go after him, how hard remains to be seen. I think the Rangers will make a very strong offer and if the Yankees don't decide to offer something crazy, he'll stay.

I think he will stay. The Rangers have the money and I dont think money is #1 for Lee. He likes this team and has already said if the team wins the WS he will stay. I think we just need to make it to the WS.

The Yankee's will throw ridiculous money @ Lee this Offseason, and it will be hard for the Rangers to match it. I think if they can, and IF they win the WS, then Cliff stays. If not, he'll be in pinstripes.

Re: Will Cliff Lee still be a Texas Ranger next season?

It's been reported earlier in the year that Nolan Ryan will pony up the dough to keep Lee in Texas. I have a feeling that the Rangers will break the bank to keep him as they really seem committed to their pitching and having a stud like Lee at the top of the rotation is key.

Never can count out the big market teams though but I really hope Lee signs with Texas. I'm gonna go with my gut and say he will.

Rangers will probably try and match any offer....much of it depends on if Cliff's wife prefers NY over DFW
