First game with 2k11 with Cavs....are they this bad or game learning curve?

I have been playing 2k series for years so I feel like I know a thing or two about the controls and feel of the game. I am a Cavs fan from way back before Lebron so I chose to stick with them....figuring I'd get a bit of a challenge. Man....I was not prepared for this.

I shot below 30% from the floor, and made only 2 of 12 3point shots. I could not get open, could not make any moves, could not drive to the hoop. The only place the game felt really good was the rebounding where I felt I grabbed a fair amount with Verajo. Also, I felt the players got way to caught up in animations when try to slice to the hoop. I felt I was losing control.

So based on last years game, where I felt that even with Lebron on the bench I could maneuver the bench players and make shots and even get some alley-oops and dunks, this years game feels sluggish and less responsive to me. Either this is the way they rated the Cavs this year (which would be a shame because the support players should not suddenly become slow and unable to shoot just because LBJ left) or the game has a completely different feel that I need to adjust to.

I was missing wide open jump shots and 3 pointers that I know I would have made in 2k10. I timed them up just right but I was missing 90% of them. So in short, do I just need to adapt to the new feel or should I give up on being competetive with the Cavs because 2k had outfitted all my players with invisible shackles to assure they stink in the post Lebron era?

I mean.....this game felt like it was in quick sand playing with a medicine ball!

THanks.

yeah, the cavs are pretty bad in 2k11...i tried playing with them for a while (because i'm a cavs fan and i live in cleveland)...but, I just couldn't do anything with them. they don't really have any quick players who can drive inside, which makes running offense pretty hard...i have also noticed that highly rated teams tend to move around more on offense while the bad teams will stand around more...i switched to using the lakers and they move around a lot more on offense which makes the game much better for me. you pretty much have to use a good team in 2k11, or the players just don't react how you want them to.

Re: First game with 2k11 with Cavs....are they this bad or game learning curve?

So Mo Williams, Antwan Jamison and Jamario Moon all became slower and sluggish since Lebron left? I understand the "Cavs" aren't as good as they were with Lebron but the individual players have to stink to accomplish this? I used Williams and Jamison a lot last year and they felt decent....not like Lebron but I felt I could play some competetive games with these guys. Now, they are slow and sluggish and it is killing the game for me.

I hated this with Madden in the past and I can't believe that 2K would go this route. Typically, Madden would penalize fast players on poor teams to force an outcome. As a diehard Browns fan I can recall in the early Maddens when they made Eric Metcalf a really slow HB when in reality he was fast and elusive. Now, he was so small that he would go down easily but you would have a hard time getting to him. I guess EA just looked at the Browns as a whole and said "to be realistic we need to make sure they don't perform good" so they cripple players unnecessarily. Also, to make the better teams always "perform" they would increase physical abilities to manipulate the outcomes.

I hated those days because as a true fan of a team, you could never play your favorite team and be competetive. In real life, most teams lose because they don't play as a team, not because the players all stink. There are almost always good, fast players on bad teams that aren't utilized right. In older Maddens, all players on a bad team were made to perform poorly.

I was really hoping that I just needed to adapt to 2k11 as it feels like a giant step backwards with regards to players speed on the court....at least for the Cavaliers. As a team they may not win as many games....but I'd really hate to see the players be forced to be slow and sluggish to obtain this outcome. To boot, Byron Scott is installing a faster pace, quick style of offense that would benefit from the small guys they have. But based on my initial game, that ain't happening with these guys in mud!

Re: First game with 2k11 with Cavs....are they this bad or game learning curve?

If it was your first game with them, or first game in general, then that's what it is. It's beyond possible you can succeed with any team. Much like yourself I've been playing 2k for years, since Dreamcast to be exact. And the reality is this game is so improved and so different because it's more realistic, that you simply cannot play the game the same way you used to. Sit in practice mode, do freestyle practice to learn the dribbling and shooting controls, as once you put everything in motion you'll understand there's a dribble move and type of shot for every situation. Then work on your post game in post up practice mode, then run your teams plays by yourself, get comfortable with them, then add a CPU defense to the plays. Put all that together in a no pressure scrimmage, and then once you feel like you know your team, go back into association or quick game and see how you do.

In years past guys like Chris Paul would get killed in the paint and couldn't play like they did in real life, I just dropped 42 and 18 with him a couple nights ago because this game gives you the tools to succeed with any player. I played against the Cavs yesterday using the old school Lakers and only beat them by 14 points and they were hanging in there the whole game, so I would say any team is capable of competing. This is just the first 2k where you legitimately have to practice and get better before you can roll off a bunch of wins. Hope this helps bro.

Re: First game with 2k11 with Cavs....are they this bad or game learning curve?

Thanks everyone. Does anyone agree that video game producers rate players lower so that bad teams are bad? I'd like to compare the ratings of last years 2k10 cavs that are returning this years 2k11 cavs so that I can see if they did drop the individual ratings down lower. Unless they dropped them for all players in the league in some attempt to create a larger gap between the elite and the average player, I think this is a poor design.

As much as I liked Lebron when he was here, he really didn't allow the players around him to do as much as they are capable of, simply because he dominated and wanted the ball almost all the time. Several guys who came into the system dropped statistically as they just didn;t utilize them as Lebron was the man.

I'd hoped to see these guys step it up and get a better opportunity since they lost LBJ and now have to rely on themselves.
