PES Noob Guide?

With the progress PES seems to have made this year, I'm guessing I'm not the only one who'll be checking out both games. Thought it might be kind of nice to have a thread where newbies to the PES franchise could use as a one-stop-shop for things all PES players should know, shared by the franchise veterans. Who wants to start?

This site is a great place to get honest feedback on the game and gameplay perspective. If you are interested in editting and modding the games along with option files you might want to check out one of the PES sites that are dedicated solely to PEs, I don't think they would like me giving links on this site, but you can do a google search to find a few good ones.

Re: PES Noob Guide?

I guess the big things I'm looking for right now are:

1. What region to get. Do OF's really get ported over to the US version or is it worth the extra dough to get the UK version. I know there's a thread on this.

2. The Champions League. How does this work if not all teams that participate in the CL are licensed (i.e., Chelsea not being a licensed team)? How are they represented if you DON'T have an option file?

3. What little tricks are there to make the game better than the default settings out of the box? I know for FIFA, the first thing I do is switch controls to all-manual. That's the 'big thing.' What's PES's big thing that purists do to make it better?

That's a start.

For the unlicensed teams you can edit them yourself - it doesn't take long and it allows you to imerse yourself into the game. You can download option files and a few guys do it themselves every year, here is a good place to start:

1. There is a base Option file that gets created for the US version every year and then some people expand on it. Check the pesgaming link that Mad posted.

2. chelsea will show up as North London with No kit in the CL if you don't have an OF. Although, it does add the CL logo on the kits i think

3. Nothing really to be honest. At least not for me anyway. Just play it the way it is out of the box. No really settings changes for me.

1. Ezio's right. You can always edit the teams with the real players but it's the kits that are the main draw of OF's for me.

3. I always change my controller settings to FIFA's

Re: PES Noob Guide?

Thanks for all the posts, fellas. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and give PES a shot this year. Will most likely grab the US version since I've never played before and don't want do drop twice the price on something I'm not familiar with yet. Seems like there's a decent US OF community anyway.

I played a bit more of the demo last night and finally figured out the manual passing (requiring the trigger press). In the final version, is there a way to set manual passing to be on by default, i.e. - not requiring the trigger to be held. I play FIFA on all manual and just enjoy the feel of that control a bit better than any assistance. I guess the same question would apply to player switching. Playing the demo last night was frustrating on defense because my players were always being pulled out of position because the switches were happening so fast.

thanks!
