Most effectice way to use hustle...

...seems to be pressing&holding the LS down, no need to click it repeatedly. I felt like i was outskated by better players in online HUT all the time and i decided to test this, seems like this is the way to go. Can anyone verify this or is it just me imagining things...

I just wish the hustle would be on A button and sticklift/protect puck would be switched to pressing down on Left stick...

Re: Most effectice way to use hustle...

Hustle is indeed holding down the LS. I think it's fine as is, I find it easier to hold while skating than trying to press it for a stick lift, were it to be switched with A/X. Another reason to keep it there is that I (and others) find myself pressing down on the LS without meaning to while skating from one end to the other. Imagine how frustrating it would be to accidentally press down on it and instead of skating down ice you're stick lifting into the face of a passing player for a high sticking double minor.

That's weird, I've always clicked it a bunch when I want to use it. That's useful information to know, I think.

I felt holding it down did little. I thought I noticed a considerable difference when clicking instead of holding.

Same, holding it for me doesn't seem to do much, but clicking...by the second or third click, I notice a big boost.

Re: Most effectice way to use hustle...

does anyone know if there's an attribute that directly affects how much clicking the hustle button speeds your player up? My guess is acceleration but aggressiveness could be construed as applicable here.

Also, does this tire your player out quicker so he's gassed more at the end of the period? i just started using the hustle button a little bit (without noticeable affects but then again my player's acceleration is like 86) and haven't noticed my dude gassed anymore than usual.

It is very subtle, but if you have been playing the game for a very long time you will no doubt see the difference when you guy starts hustling.

But note;
  • If your guy is already tired, you wont se much, if any, difference at all when hustling.
  • There's three gears (clicks), so one click usually wont show much difference, while three clicks puts you at full speed.
  • Yes, your guy fatigues very quickly when hustling, so use it only when necessary.
  • You can only hustle when going in pretty straight lines.
So with this in mind, you can conclude that the later in the period, and the later in the game, the hustling will have less effect.
But then again, the difference between players will also stand out more at this point, so this is the time your 99-speed-superstar that has been playing 45 minutes get out-hustled by the fresh 4th liner who just spent 5 minutes in the sin bin.

@ your first question; acceleration and speed is the attributes that directly affects the hustling as it will determine how quickly you'll reach top speed, and how high your top speed is.
Indirectly your endurance affects how often you can use the hustle, and for how long you can keep top speed.

Re: Most effectice way to use hustle...

Great reply Franco.

Just wanted to add that the hustle is more noticable when you don`t have the puck.
Devs have said it is active with the puck,...but I don`t think it`s worth trying, unless you are wanting to maintain puck control, and don`t want to risk pushing the puck ahead,....

Sometimes maintaining possession is a good thing,....you control the situation.Smart hockey when trying to seal the deal on a win,.....
Dump and chase is good when you`re behind,or tied,or want to build on a lead.
But if you want to limit the other teams chances, maintaining control of the puck as much as you can, making smart low risk passes with few turnovers and giveaways will help you do it.

For the record,...for hustle 1 or 2 clicks is usually all I use.
I also think that it being on the L joystick is perfect, and hope they don`t move it,or anything else right now,...without allowing for complete or near complete, custom, user mapped control schemes.
