Big problems with executing screen plays

Any tips out there? I'm getting incredibly frustrated. Just jumped to Heisman level as AA was too easy. However I have not been able to run any screens, ESPECIALLY bubble and half back slip screens. It is most annoying when it's a GOOD play call (read: big blitz inside)...screens are a great way to help against super aggressive defenses and I have none at my disposal. The Defense is just too good at play recognition my WR/RB is hit in the backfield almost all of the time.

I have HUGE issues with defenses NOT biting on PA passes as well...even after I run the ball X times in a row...but that is another thread.

So - if there are any tips on slip screens / bubble screens in heisman (as well as some help in making those damn play actions actually work correctly) please let me know.

Re: Big problems with executing screen plays

I have Bubble Screen in my list of quick audibles, and the only time I can get it to work is if I recognize a CB Blitz, or a weak zonal scheme by the defense.

Other than that, I've cast them off as a lost cause.

PA on the other hand, I've been having success with lately. I don't run many but usually, I set a WR in motion, test the coverage, and move my OLINE to pressure opposite of where my QB is rolling out.
If I don't feel it will work I audible to a run play.

Occasionally I get smashed, but pretty regularly I get a little time to find the open man. If I don't see it I just throw the ball away quickly. I've also gotten some large QB scrambles off the PA too.
IMO, PA plays pretty realistically.

Re: Big problems with executing screen plays

You should probably be using sliders instead of jumping up to Heisman. The Heisman defensive AI is always in your huddle.

Either way, bubble screens hardly ever work in the game, no matter the difficulty. The DBs read it very easily. In all fairness, I can read it incredibly easily if the CPU tries to do it, too. The problem is the slow animations for both the WR getting into position and the QB making a drop. In real life, a bubble screen or WR screen is a one step drop and throw while the receiver is still moving. In the game, every screen is at least a 3 step drop (sometimes 5), and you have to wait until the WR is almost stopped or else he'll drop it 9 times out of 10. This gives the defense way too much time to read and react.

One thing you can try against a full LB blitz is a middle screen. If you give it long enough to develop, the LBs will get behind the screen blockers and then you have a bunch of linemen and receivers to block just a few DBs. The defense seems to have a harder time reading middle screens.

Re: Big problems with executing screen plays

I tried adjusting sliders to fit an AA playstyle. Perhaps I will try some more...the problem I was running in to was in order to get a competitive game the RB would be so juiced it was not any fun. Maybe I'll play around with AA sliders some more...was using SN's slider set but it was just a little cake. His suggestion was to move up to Heisman which is what I did.

Thank you for the input. I will give this stuff some thought and work on it.

PS casting screens off is a sad, sad day. Needs to get fixed as they are a very real, very important part of football.

Screens are hit or miss for me. Sometimes the AI blows it up, other times I get huge gains out of them. I'll run them a lot as a change of pace when I've went deep (7+ yard routes) a number of times from a certain position. The AI cheats the defense backwards when they are getting torched and a quick screen keeps them honest.

You play on heisman, you will get cheated. Expect a 'challenge', and to have a hard time winning games, but don't expect realism.

Re: Big problems with executing screen plays

I have problems with both Screens and Play Action. I could have 49-0 lead, with 20 straight runs in, try to do a play action and my blockers forget there supposed to block after the fake, I probably get a pass off maybe 30% of the time, and you instantly have to throw once you fake and bootleg, meaning no time to look so I toss alot more interceptions that way. Very frustrating that I choose not to use any PA anymore, which sucks.

Screens are a big healthy dab of a loss of down. I've had probably 10% success on screens..not cool.
