Re: is 2k gonna fix the servers in 2k11?

Do people really understand what the 2K servers did? For years, once you got into the game, the SERVERS did nothing for you. They were gone. They were just match-making servers. This year, (or was it during last year), they're supposed to add servers as relays. Do folks understand the difference? The difference is that if you disconnected in 2k9, that is the fault of 1 of the 2 clients (your machine or your opponents machine). NOW, if you disconnect, you can still blame the clients, but servers, they to help out.

ANYWAY, not to get off on a tangent. I understand the basic jist of your question. I guess to answer the question - considering they've changed how all of this work screams that THIS is their solution to the "server issues". We'll see how it goes. No way to know until 50,000 people try to play a game at the same time. :P

This is a wait and see question. 2k's servers have been there Achilles' heel for quite some time. This is something that they said they're improving it the last few years but I didn't see it. Where we're at with online gaming I thought 2k10's servers were not acceptable.

Whatever you wanna call it, but I've never played a lag free game online on any NBA 2k game...

No doubt it might be someone else's router or something equally as simple, but there has always been (although I admittedly have not played 2k9 or 10 online) input lag if nothing else. Serious input lag is the bane of online gaming...

Random drops happen, not really worried about all that... but input lag or actual chop lag in this generation is really unacceptable. You shouldn't have to account for lag in everything you do.

That's the thing. 2K has always used a peer-to-peer online model. Not a state based client-server online model. Peer-to-peer? Latency is going to be felt. It's just a matter of trying to keep it consistent, then you can adjust.

Re: is 2k gonna fix the servers in 2k11?

whatever their yearly projections are for this game online, they should expect to see that triple. 2k has NEVER marketed the game like this before, you gotta be prepared for every single person to go online on launch day, no delays, no hiccups
