Retiring players

Just a quick question.

I've simulated the 2010 a few times and Mariano Rivera seems to retire at the end of the year every time? Is this happening to everyone else too?

I'm playing my Yankees franchise (2 weeks left in the season) and Rivera has a 0.93 ERA with 52 saves, and he should then automatically retire at the end of the season because of his age? If so, that SUCKS big time.

I've been through a few seasons in multiple franchises and he doesn't retire every time. In fact, I've seen him stick around a few years and even switch teams!

Re: Retiring players

In my franchise, I just started the 2012 season and Rivera signed a one year deal with the Diamondbacks for $10.71 million.

The retirements are random up until after the draft. Other than injuries, they are set then. I think it has something to do with making room for the new players to come in. Ideally, I would love to see no one retire without spending some time in the free agency pool. As it is, I see players that are having great years or are close to certain milestones retire and other players spend 2-3 years rotting in free agency. If a player spends a season in FA and isn't picked up in the off season, then they should retire. It would be a little more realistic, plus people wouldn't complain about certain players retiring when all they would need to do is sign that player for another year.

I'm in year 2014 in my closer RTTS and Rivera is still pitching. In fact, the Diamondbacks made him my set up man.

Rivera retires many times in 2011 season in the show, but fortunately in mines is still playing with Cincinatti

Anyone has Moyer playing in 2011 or next seasons?

Re: Retiring players

I don't know...but I don't think players retire mid-contract anymore(I think SCEA fixed this with '10, right?)...so if you are starting a new franchise or want to restart...keep in mind you can use the contract work around by sending the player you don't want to have a 1 year contract any longer and send him to the FA list...then back to the team. Check his contract. It will change(usually). You can do this numerous times until you get the contract you like.

Re: Retiring players

So knight you are saying that if you can sign an aging vet to a long contract then they won't retire until the contract is up? I will have to try that out. Maybe I will give someone like Pujols a 10 year contract when he is in his late 30's to see how many records he breaks

Re: Retiring players

Nope Players still continuously retire mid contract. I thought it was supposed to fixed but it happens all the time. ex. Cardinals and Ryan Franklin retiring after the first season.
