Turn off Auto-strafe for better user defense

Not that it solves the problem of lack of defense in this game, but a lot of the problems, after testing with my friends, came from auto-strafe. When turned on, defenders would strafe too much and WR's running crossing routes would continue in stride while defenders are a step late, giving up the home run play. When off, you can press X and follow a WR and strafe when you need to get in front of the ball or the runner.

It helps immensely, but it's still only a band-aid.

instead of running, you side step facing the quarterback giving you a better chance for an interception.

I disagree about strafe, but I do turn off auto-strafe because I like to control it myself.

After a few games of shuffling around without strafing, I've found that it's absolutely necessary on this game. At the snap, hold L trigger and R trigger (360) and you will be able to glide around with grace and speed. Without strafing, locomotion constantly forces you to stop and plant, killing your momentum.

The first big breakthrough as far as learning how to control my defender fluidly was switching to the aforementioned method.

Ya I have always turned auto-strafe off... I would rather be in control of that...

Re: Turn off Auto-strafe for better user defense

The secret to having auto strafe on is that pressing the R trigger makes your player not strafe while defending the crossing routes and whatnot.

The change makes total sense because before (Madden 10 and under) most of the time on D you spend strafing waiting to react to a play. This means you are holding L most of the play just to keep your player in the spy position (facing the QB) until needing to break on the ball (by letting go of L and sprinting to the ball carrier). With autostrafe on, you don't have to hold that L button waiting for something to happen, it does it automatically making your player slower and keeping him in position to break on a ball with the R trigger like in previous years. The only difference is that you don't have to hold that L for a bit.

Yes...turn off auto strafe or you WILL get Moss'd when playing online. One of my online buddies was killing me with the jump ball because my defender would not jump. Once I turned off auto strafe it made a world of difference.

During the demo I've always had autostrafe off...and still my guys don't go for jump balls. Or even if I control him and can get him to jump he never makes a play on the ball. The WR ALWAYS comes down with the ball.
