DUMB REDSHIRT QUESTION

I know this is a bit of a stupid question, but I'm just not hat familiar with college football. When a player has been redshirted does he still only have 4 years left to play or does that give him an extra year of eligibility? If I have a Sr(rs) player is he going to graduate or do I get him for another year?

A redshirt senior is in his last year.

Freshmen just arrived on campus and have 4 seasons to play.
Redshirt freshmen arrived on campus last year and were redshirted, but still have 4 seasons to play.


A senior arrived on campus 4 years ago, has played 3 seasons, and is getting ready to play his 4th and final season.

A redshirt senior arrived on campus 5 years ago, has played 3 seasons and redshirted one season. He's getting ready to play his 5th and final season (one of those 5 was a redshirt year he did not play).

If you have a SR(RS) on your team it's his final year. Players have 4 years of eligibility of on field play so to speak. They can be on a team for five because of redshirting for a season.

Yes they still have 4 years of eligiblity. They just won't play the year you redshirted them.

Normally I redshirt the freshmen I bring in that end up being third on the depth chart. They are still able to progress (train) during the post season.
