Defence help

I just recently got into playing fifa and i really need some help on my defense, i usually end up giving the other player too much room to move a round trying to stop the through ball and end up giving them too much room to strike from the outside the box for a goal. I was just wondering if anyone can give me some tip to improve my defense.
Btw just a couple of general questions i have

Also i know that no sprinting with the ball helps you control the ball better on off but does sprinting have any major effect while playing defense

is there a way to get a greater accuracy on the kick, becuase all my long shots go over the bar or a easy goally catch

What team is rated very poorly but has great talent in the game, stating a season and i want to take a low ranked team and build them up

Thanks in advance for anyone the replies

Re: Defence help

Try to maintain your defender between the dribbler and where you intend the ball to be (be at another player he will pass it to or the goal). In hockey parlance, this is blocking the passing lanes. When you are in that position and have everyone else you can see marked, use the circle (ps3) to call for a second defender to press him. This is especially useful when it switches you to a defender and all your defenders have marked men but your central midfielders are standing 10 yards away. By pressing the circle they will then come back and press the dribbler. Be aware if no midfielders are nearby then pressing circle would cause one of your defenders to leave his marked man to press and that would be bad.

If they continue to dribble around you, start using the jockeying technique when they get closer (LT I think).

As far as shooting, the elevation of the ball is DIRECTLY tied to the power. 90% of your shots (outside the 6 yard box) should be taps which will be lower shots. Consider also using finesse shots on 1-1 situations (L1+Circle for lob or R1+Circle for an inside foot shot).

As far as building up a team, try a team like Leeds. Bring them back to their late 90's overspent, Woodgate/Bowyer beating up clubbies, glory days.
