Thumbs up There MAY be an option to manually tell your D-Ends to get up field pre-snap!

Like many of you I have been watching all of these Madden gameplay videos trying to get a good read on what to expect this year. One thing I noticed is that occasionally (very rarely) you see D-Ends sprint straight up the field like a true pass rush, and other times they just do their usual run straight into the Offensive tackle. This is something I cannot get the D-ends to do in the NCAA demo but I have definitely seen it in a select few Madden videos.

On the pasta-padre video set two (Part 5) with the colts vs. chargers at the 40 second mark exactly pause the video and you can see the guy has the defensive line hot routes up. All of the options are the same as NCAA except for one. The RS up prompt says "pass" where as the RS up prompt in NCAA and previous Maddens is "contain QB". Could this mean that you can manually hit RS up pre-snap and tell your D-Ends to rush up field?

This would be an absolutely HUGE feature if this is the case!

Here is a link to the pastapadre videos. Check out Part 5 at exactly the 40 second mark:

EDIT: Here is the video I was looking for that shows the D-Ends truly getting up field.... Look at the 10 second mark of this video at the Carolina Left Defensive End... (You cannot get D-ends to do this in NCAA or previous Maddens unless they are human controlled)

It looks like the same set of options only instead of pressing up to crash the line out which would send to ends sprinting out at an odd angle it has "Pass". Kinda like last gen with the slide protection, they had "spread", now it's "aggressive." So, you may be on to something or it could just be the same mechanic under a different name.

I have noticed ends getting up field in certain situations so MAN I hope you're right. Hopefully, someone who had some hands on can shed some light.

Senator, the "spread" the defensive line is still there. It is LS up and can be seen in the box above the one I am referring too. The "pass" pre-play control is taking the place of "QB contain" in NCAA and previous Maddens..

I see what you're saying. I didn't know the correct word when I said "spread." I meant "crash out". In ten when you hit up once it spreads your line but keeps the linemen's routes the same. Hit it again and it will change the d-linemen's routes to crash out. That's where you get those horrible animations where the ends sprint out and not upfield, and pretty much take themselves out of the play.

I see that "Pass" that has taken the place of the "Crash out". I'm hoping it's not window dressing and actually has functionality, because I have seen a few vids where the ends are getting upfield.

I've seen it on NCAA but it seems to be random.

Sometimes he runs right at the tackle but every so often he goes around him and the tackle cant get out quick enough. I'm guessing thats where the O-Tackle's Speed, Agility and Pass Block Footwork come into play.

The hot route your referring to puts the end in a short drop zone.... sadly it's an option that has been in the game since defensive hot routes came about. It's in the NCAA demo (highlight the DE, press A for the 360, press up on the right thumb stick). There isn't an option to make your ends sprint so that I have seen. There was in 08 or 09 I believe the ability to time the snap and get a god jump, but that was gone last year.

I know exactly what you're talking about! I tweeted Ian on it: whats pass mean under the dline preplay snap? His reply was: i think that's the one that forces the DL upfield on pass rush if we're talking about the same thing

Wow. This is good news... if you and Ian were on the same page. I always thought a mechanic like that was needed sense run/pass commit was taken away.

Great find ch46647!
