Celta de Vigo's Return to Prominence

Hey, this is my first attempt at a dynasty on OS and Im just getting some practice in before NCAA 11 and FIFA 11 come out because I want to do some with those. I am going to put a story segment into my updates so they will be broken into two parts, the first one will be mostly text and describe the background of what is happening and the second part will be game reports, transfers, injuries, etc with tables and graphics. Also a lot of Spanish will be used in the story part but for the most part they will be either words everyone knows or looks similar to its English meaning or will be translated by another character. The story is told from the point of view of the assistant coach.

I hope you guys enjoys. Im working on the team intro now

Chapter 1 - An Unusual Meeting
It was nearing the end of June as he stepped out of the Vigo-Peinador Airport terminal. The breeze cooled him off after being in the stuffy building with the other passengers. It was his first time traveling to Spain, or anywhere outside of the Western Hemisphere for that matter. He glanced from side to side, hoping to catch a glimpse of the driver that was suppose to pick him up. Just days before the Segunda División had finished yet another season of soccer and the off season was quickly coming to an end. He had been contacted two weeks ago about a job offer to be an assistant coach for Celta de Vigo

“Presumo Sr Viñas?” he turned around to greet the speaker, “Sígueme por favor.”

His Spanish was rough and he almost tackled the man as he thought of some rather unfriendly remarks that might have just been thrown his way.

“Uh,” he thought for a second, “Gracias Señor?”

“Eusebio Sacristán Mena, head coach of Celta.” said the man rather impatiently as he opened the door to his car, “Get in, we have a long drive to the stadium.”

He was glad that his new boss was fluent in English and had switched language without being asked. He placed his luggage in the trunk of the new Comarth Xtamy and climbed into the passenger side next to Eusebio as they pulled out the airport parking lot and headed west towards both of their futures.

“Ahh! Bienvenido a mi país Sr Viñas!” exclaimed Carlos Mouriño, el presidente of Los Celestes, or Sky Blues as the team is commonly referred to by supporters, “Estamos contentos de tenerlo aquí.”

“He says welcome to Spain and that he is glad you are here.” explained Eusebio, “Dónde quieres que me lo lleve ahora?”

“Sí sí , lo llevan a la casa club y le dejó conocer al equipo”
he announced as he waved them off and went back to signing papers.

“Come, he wants me to show you the team before I take your hotel.” said Eusebio as he let out sigh of exhaustion. They walked down corridor after corridor until they came across a sign labeled ‘Advertencia: equipo de personal sólo’. Eusebio opened the door and they filed in to the room full of men.

“Atención! Este es el Sr Viñas, el es nuestro nuevo entrenador asistente de los Estados Unidos. Su Español es malo para darle la oportunidad de aprender.” Eusebio turned toward his companion, “Go ahead and talk to some of the guys, I told them not to expect much Spanish from you right now.” laughed Eusebio as swiftly walked out of the room, knowing that the gringo would have problems being lost in translation.

He slowly walked through the room, making casual nods and only using quick phrases one would learn on their first day of Espanol I. Most of the guys were still getting dressed back into street clothes making conversation awkward. He stopped at a plaque that he was able to roughly translate as being given to the runners up in the Copa del Rey in 2001. Celtic had once been a really good team but now an accomplishment would just be finishing in the top half of the lower division.

“Hi, I Hugo, nice meet you.” he glanced to the side to see who had spoken the broken up English. He saw that the speaker was one of the more younger players on the first team and tried hard to give the same effort in Spanish that young Hugo had given in his own national language. They found themselves both laughing at their horrid attempts of speaking second languages. He did find out that he was not the only one who was there for the first time, just about all of the coaches were brand new to the club, but of course he was the only one not from Spain or one of its former colonies.

The players started to clear out of the room and soon only a few stragglers were left behind. A commotion broke out on the other end of the room as several of those remaining broke out into a heated argument. He walked closer to get a better view of what was happening when suddenly two of them started throwing punches and those around them started shouting words of encouragement. He ran up to the group, pushing his way through to find out the reason behind the fight but as he neared the combatants one of them tried to run away in his direction, knocking him to the ground in his retreat. As he fell his head struck a bench and light turned to darkness as he drew closer and closer to unconsciousness.

Re: Celta de Vigo's Return to Prominence

Celta de Vigo Los Celestes

Founded in 1923 as a merger between two local clubs, Celta is located in Vigo, Galicia which is in the northwest part of Spain above Portugal. The club has not garnered as much fame as clubs such as Barcelona or Real Madrid, they have however remained in the first division of Spanish professional soccer for the majority of their existence. The club had been in the first division since 1992 before going from 4th to 19th in the 2003/2004 season. Although they did get back and remained in the firs division for hte next two seasons, they returned to a less than spectacular finish and have not finished higher than 16th since 2005.

Balaídos
The stadium has been the only home to Celta since its founding and the first game played was a 7-0 victory for Celta. The stadium was also used for the 1982 World Cup Group 1 games and has been proposed to be renovated for a possible joint World Cup bid between Portugal and Spain. The stadium seats 31,000 seated and a record attendance of 45,000 appeared for a match in 1982.

The Situation
Eusebio Sacristán Mena, a former midfielder for Valladolid, Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Celta Vigo, has been the assistant manager at Barcelona since 2003 and has just signed on as head coach for Celta de Vigo. He has almost completely rehired the staff at Celta but only one of the new recruits is not from Spain and is an American who caught the eye of Eusebio. Eusebio is trying to youthen the team alongside his new coaching staff and try and make it back to La Liga BBVA.

So what do you guys think? I've done the preseason and made some transfers and I'll post them after the next update

Re: Celta de Vigo's Return to Prominence

Chapter 2 - Preseason
It had been almost 2 months since the incident and the team was not doing so well. According to Eusebio these fights were a common occurrence at the club and that he should be lucky he wasn't directly involved. There was oiir chemistry amongst the team and if they couldn't get it together they would find themselves out of the professional leagues and maybe even out of jobs. They had tried changing practices up a bit to try and have more fun but usually the players just used the down time to leave the stadium without permission. With preseason approaching things were not looking good for the team.

As their first game drew near, the coaches tried to get the team to focused but the players just blew off all of their opponents as being third rate players from the lower leagues. Which while being partially true the team wasn't playing like a professional team anyway. They had tried posting sanctions on the players like curfews and fines but had so far failed to get through to them.

Their first two games ended in 1-0 wins for Celta Vigo, but as the third game came up the team lost control early and lost 4-1. The bad luck carried on into their final friendly where they somehow kept a draw with the ball in their half of the pitch half the game. Eusebio decided to bring in new players and play some more off the bench. As the league's opening day approached, five new players were starting and most of the subs had not started a game at all the previous season.

Players like
Reiniery Mayorquin from Honduras and Nicolás Gaitlin from Argentina were brought in as well as players like Joselu and Michu were brought off the bench and given the starting position. He also sold off one of the bigger troublemakers at the club, Iago Aspas.to Xerez, another club in the league.

"So what are our chances of competing this year? We have the talent just not the discipline or cooperation." his voice trailing off at the end of the last sentence. It had become almost impossible to even talk to the players as they only listened to the Spanish coaches.

"Poco." remarked Eusebio, raising his hand with his thumb and index finger an inch apart. "They just don't have any respect, this might not go so well for us this season." They had been pondering what the starting team should be for a month now and with their first test only a few days away decisions had to be made.

Alright i'm working on player and coach info now and I'll have it up in a few hours.

Re: Celta de Vigo's Return to Prominence

Game 1at Gimnastic

"Vamos! Vamos" yelled Eusebio as the teams lined up in the tunnel. They had traveled the length of Spain's northern countryside to get to Tarragona where Gimnàstic fans were waiting for them with a degree of hostility. They ran outside into the open air as a stadium full of Nàstic supporters greeted them. The sky was clear and the sun glared down upon players, it was a good day for soccer he thought as the game got under way. Maybe not. In the 3rd minute midfielder Alex Cruz of Gimnàstic went straight through the Celta defense and scored on a chip shot over the keeper. Eusebio started screaming something in Spanish but was speaking so fast that he could barely understood the jest of his fit.

As the 12th minute neared, Gimnàstic looked like they were about score again but the man on the ball fell and Ortega cleared it with ease. As there eyes followed the ball in the air, as it neared the ground he noticed Mayorquin recieving the ball and turning up field, beating the last defender. He was on a breakaway all by himself with only the goalkeeper to beat. Perez came off his line as Mayorquin neared the box. With a swift cut to his right, Mayorquin knocked it past him with ease and the game was tied up.

For the remainder of the half, Gimnàstic kept control of the ball in Celta territory but could not get close enough to get a decent shot off. After halftime, Celta came out fast and for about the first 20 minutes of the half the ball was near the Gimnàstic goal. Neither team managed to score in the half, ending the game in a 1 all tie.

"Things are going better than we thought." he remarked as the players were leaving the locker room. They had made it back with a tie in their first contest and now they got a chance to show the fans what they were made of. All 1000 or so of them that had bought tickets.

After the opening kickoff, Murcia got the ball and Sanchez sent a long cross towards Natlio who was near the far side of the box. Michu headed it away and as Celta formed a counter attack, Michu gets it back near the opponent's box and send a shot right off the crossbar and Murcia is saved as De Coz sends it flying away from goal. A few minutes later Celta gets another chance as Murcia turns it over on the wings and Ortega passes it to Joselu who manages to lead Gaitán past the defenders. Gaitán tries to chip the keeper but a Murcia defender heads it away at the last second.

As extra time neared, Joselu got a chance to finish in a one v one with the keeper but shot just wide of the netting. Eusebio almost ran out on the field to kill the poor kid for missing the open shot. As the second half began, neither team could get the ball out of midfield, both teams struggled with each other until finally in the 73rd minute, Dani Aquino got through the Celta defense and scored to break the deadlock.

"Joderme!!!" yelled Eusebio in anger. We had less than 30 minutes to try and tie the game back up. Oubia went om for Abalo to give us fresh legs on the side, 15 minutes later Arthuro went on for Bustos who had twisted his ankle on a challenge by Bruno.

As stoppage time neared, Joselu broke away after stealing the ball from Luque. The goalkeeper kept his line until the last second when he decided to try and charge the ball, Joselu sent it flying right by him to tie the game up! The referee called the game only a minute later and Celta had managed to come away with a tie again.
