I could listen to Vin Scully all day

Watching the Redbirds vs Dodgers on MLB.TV. Vin Scully is one of TRUE old-school broadcasters. Like all the others before him classic.

I always do the Dodgers feed...I love listening to him.

Re: I could listen to Vin Scully all day

Ugh, Vin Scully is one of the most annoying voices to listen to in all of baseball!

I'm sorry, but I have to get this one off my chest (I'm sure I may have posted this before). I'm telling you right now that if you detach his name and historical calls from his resume, and pick some random Joe off the street and ask him if you can stand listening to him, they would run like hell. This guy's nasally tune makes my ears bleed while he puts me to sleep, not an easy task.

I couldn't care less what wars you guys survived or went through listening to him call Dodgers games and what magnificent stories he can tell about the past, if the voice and tone aren't up to standards then it is unbearable. No, this is not because I am a Giants fan. I'm glad I am not a Dodgers fan for this reason, though. I honestly wouldn't be able to watch 162 games a year if this was the case, or I would force myself to listen to the radio side of the broadcast.

I know I am in a smaller minority than the ratio of people who like/dislike pepperoni on their pizza, but I almost don't care anymore. I'm not going to say that I like listening to him because he's an "all-time legend" (whatever that is supposed to mean). He may have sounded better in the past, but this is the present and the dude simply does not fly on my radar of entertaining announcers (the White Sox announcers can go with him, but they are disliked because they are unbearable douche bags).

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I know others who don't like Scully, but I couldn't disagree more. One thing to keep in mind is that Scully is a radio guy doing TV. To me he's much better on radio than tv, but he's still great. You talk about taking away all the history from the guy, but good grief, that's like me saying if you take away Barry Bonds glove and swing he's not a good baseball player. When I listen to Vin Scully I'm listening to the same guy who called games at Ebbets Field when Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, and Jackie Robinson were running around out there. If that doesn't move you, I'm sorry...

Eh, with all due respect, the analogy is a bit off here. I'm not saying that you should take away the stories that he tells, I'm saying that you can't just say because he was there for Kirk Gibson's home run that he is suddenly enshrined and a god to listen to on the radio or on television. I'm not taking away any of his talent, so as a fair comparison I would say that if Bonds was still playing and he was batting .150 on the season and struck out every five at-bats, and I defend him by referring to his good ol' days.

I'm not saying that Scully's time is up, but I can't imagine he sounded much different thirty years ago either. Maybe he talked a little bit more quickly, that would have helped.

But see, that's unfair bias and nostalgia that not only won't touch a younger guy like me, that not only can't touch a younger guy like me, but that shouldn't factor in touching someone that was able to hear him then. Okay, I'll give it to you that he's been around forever and you've been able to listen to him, and I also do understand that you entitled me to my opinion, but I'm not going to like Vin Scully because his name is Vin Scully, I'm going to like him because he is going to keep me awake as I watch my baseball game.

Again, not to hark on the guy. I'm sure he's a great announcer (though I've predicted some of his calls in the past quite literally by what he's going to say, my dad as a witness can attest to that), but the voice is at least half of the actual announcing and his brings me back... that is, my eyelids into my head.

I guess we both just have to realize that I grew up in a different age and I can't speak of any "good ol' days" or recall baseball's classic era, so in some ways I definitely have to be appreciative of him, as I am... I just think he is atrociously boring to listen to, therefore I couldn't listen to him all day.

Like I said, not everyone is going to like the same things and I respect that. I will point out, however, that I'm not much older than you are (I'll turn 29 here in a few weeks) so I don't think it's so much a generational thing as a personal preference thing.

You sir are an unamerican communist and should be forced to live elsewhere.
Vic Scully is a legend and quite possibly the single greatest sports broadcaster of all time!
And no one is allowed to disagree with me.

Re: I could listen to Vin Scully all day

No offense to the "legend" Scully, but, he's boring....

I can't tell if the Dodgers just hit a game winning walkoff HR, or if they hit a HR in the bottom of the first. Hardly any emotion either way.

I understand he's "old school", but still........at least pretend to be excited.
