How to review Backbreaker

For those who are reviewing Backbreaker in the future. Here is a guide on how to review and grade Backbreaker. This should be very helpful for those who want to follow the pattern properly. These are really 10 simple steps.

Step #1- You must start off the review by promoting the fact that Backbreaker does not have an NFL license. This is a key and it should be used to knock off a couple of points off the overall grade of the game.

Step #2- Make sure to promote the fact that Backbreaker is trying to take down or overtake Madden.

Step #3- Compare Backbreaker to Blitz or some other arcade type game even if Backbreaker is the complete opposite of any arcade game. If possible, throw in an absurd XFL reference.

Step #4- After labeling Backbreaker an arcade game. Now rip the game for not being pick up and play. Harp on the fact that Backbreaker is too hard for the casual gamer. Throw in line about a larger instruction manual needed to grasp all the game's finer points. Complain about how difficult it is to throw complete passes when you don't read your progressions and set your feet in the pocket before throwing.

Step #5- After labeling Backbreaker as being too difficult. Now go over how bad The AI is and how easy the game is to play.

Step #6- Complain about the 3rd person camera angle and on field view. Take a harsh stance against the makers of the game for developing a brand new style of football game. Take Backbreaker to task for not sticking with the time honored formula of the last 20 years of football games.

Step #7- Mention that there is no commentary in the game. Attack Backbreaker for not having a broadcast style of football game despite the fact that the game was not developed with that intention. Lower overall grade based on this alone.

Step #8- Quickly gloss over the gameplay engine. Ignore the physics, player interaction and natural football motion. Steps 1 through 7 negate euphoria. Quickly mention that the tackles look halfway decent but throw backhanded compliment with rag doll reference.

Step #9- State that the game has no depth. Ignore the two seperate franchise modes, tackle alley, league customization etc etc etc. Claim that the game has no long term playability. Despite the fact that there are more playable modes in Backbreaker than any football game released before it.

Step #10- Use half truths when going over the deepest customization tools in sports game history. Negate the quality of this by leaning towards step #1. No NFL license. State as fact that there is no way you can customize the NFL into Backbreaker. Falsely state that all NFL player names from the past and present are not allowed in the game. Illustrate how extremely difficult it is to use the customization in Backbreaker.

At this point. A 5 rating should be the grade of your Backbreaker review. Find a cute way to say to Natural Motion. Nice try guys. Go home. After burying Natural Motion and the euphoria engine being in a football game. Run to play the natural motion euphoria engine Red Dead Redemption. Label RDR the greatest game ever based on it's gameplay.
