Well - I can finally submit the AI

I remember reading various methods like holding the stick down after you click it, and pulsating crap. That never worked - so I found my own way.

If you click the stick in and then let go of it, your stamina stops draining because you apparently aren't putting total effort into it unless you spin. So the AI's goes down because they're trying to escape. Well if you can get it low enough on the bar and then slap a sub attempt on and let go of the stick, there's will drain to almost nothing quickly while yours will stay pretty close to where it was. From there, shine like a mo-fo.

I just got the "win with a submission transition" with BJ Penn doing this in the 2nd round.

So it takes a little bit of time; I worked my opponent's body until the second then I pulled guard and rubber guarded him. From there, the AI drained his stamina to about 1/2, then I did my little method.

Just tapped Anthony Johnson in 1:30 on Expert with Dustin H.

So I've been testing this out with those two. I've now got 6 subs in the first round - armbars, kimura's, and triangles.

It's just a matter of getting him to waste a bit of energy on the ground (say around half) and then slapping on the sub, letting go of the stick, watching his drain while yours hardly moves, and then shining. Sometimes I get it on the first try, sometimes it takes a few sub attempts.

I did pick the best vs worst submission guys, but I just wanted to see if I could get the "under a minute sub" thing. I'm still working on that. But it's better to me now.

*and I got the achievement. I took him down, he tried to get up, then he did get up. So I stood - grapple fought with him for 20 seconds or so - so both our stamina were really low. Pulled him down, put him in rubber guard, slapped the sub on right away (triangle). He was around 2/3's full on stamina at this point... I let it drain and with around 1/4th stamina for him I switched to the armbar and locked that sucker in.

This changes the game for me big time.

So let me get this straight.

1) when in position click in the stick for a sub and let go.
2) once the CPU stamina gets low click the stick again and let go
3) shine like a mo-fo

correct?

Re: Well - I can finally submit the AI

Basically, yes. You don't have to click it back in, though - you can just start shining. I just click it when I want to transition subs; which is pretty sweet now that I've got it down.

As soon as you let go of the stick, you're no longer pressing the sub - just holding it. At this point, the AI is struggling to get out and wasting stamina, while you're just technically holding the position. Then when you shine, you're trying to put your energy into pulling it off. So you can pretty easily get your stamina to almost full and his almost empty when you start the shining by using this method.

There comes a point where in the camera it's zoomed out as far as it will go, and at that point you've lost it. If you didn't start shining, then he'll get out. So I try to let it zoom out as far as I can, which generally gets their stamina pretty low - and then I go into sub mode.

You kind of just have to try it with a high sub guy against a low sub defense guy and get the hang of it.

The key is to have as much energy as you can have, really. It's crazy because I find being on the bottom to be an advantage. For some reason the guy on top loses a lot of energy - so letting him use some up, the transitioning and making him lose more can really help out.

For instance, I just had Kimbo reverse a slam by me and end up in mount... well it cost some energy, then a few punches did, then I transitioned to half-guard from there and slapped on a Kimura with him having about 1/2 his energy from all the work he did and BAM! Tapped out.

My enjoyment of this game has just skyrocketed.

I was doing Al-Turk vs Mir (me) and into the second round it went. With about 2:30 left I got mount and finally got his back. From there I worked in a few shots, let him try to get out of it, then slapped on a rear-naked choke and finished the sucker.

I actually felt when I got his back originally that I could end it right there; I just had to play it right, and I did. I actually got the feeling of being in a dominant position with a high level BJJ fighter and that I could end it because Al-Turk only has a 74 defensive rating, and then proceeded to play it properly and finish it. It was pretty damn sweet.

I'm going to play tomorrow with some more even fighters (like Mir vs Nog) and see how that goes. I get the feeling it could be a crazy match.

Re: Well - I can finally submit the AI

hehe finally people are getting the hang on the submissions...they are not that hard as they seem. Later today or tomorrow I am going to start a write-up on everything I found out about the submission game. While it is not that I can submit at will, I can usually make the cpu tap earlier or later in the 1st or 2nd round without rocking them. stay tuned if you really want some insides an opinions. It will be a long read.

Well you don't have to, but it helps a ton. You could make it more of a challenge and try to gauge the timing for yourself like people did with 2009.
