(Video) Player awareness of field position + big back momentum

This might not be some huge highlight hit... but to me this is even more impressive.

I've been playing a lot lately with the colonels and subbing in the second string running back which has a higher strength rating and looks bigger than the main running back.

I wanted to show off this particular video because I think it shows a few things that are absolutely amazing with this engine.

The down is 4th, and there is 3 yards to go. I've been going for it a lot of fourth down because I'd rather be running plays in the demo instead of punting it away.

I chose a simple ISO up the middle. I get the ball and the hole opens up nicely.... but theres a MLB right in my path. I go forward and hit the truck move just in time to get my player slightly leaning into his tackle. The MLB spreads open and wraps me up good around the waist.

Now, here is where it gets amazing to me. Not only can you see the running back DRIVING his legs forward... he even takes 3 steps trying to power his way through the MLB (you can see the MLB falling backwards). I am then hit from an angle by another defender (you can continue to see my feet move which proves the player was trying to push himself forward) which pushes me forward and I fall laying ontop of the original LB still not "down" at this point. Not shown in the video but seen from the highlight replay was my player reaching out for the first down which he was able to get thanks to that second effort after falling forward

Seeing a player make a second effort like this and not just being taken down like a ragdoll is truly something else.

Everything in this game might not be 100% sim... but even you diehard guys will have to be impressed by the little... subtle touches situations like this provide in this game.

Nice video. I love the secondary contact in this game and how it realistically alters the momentum of all players in the area.

The physics engine is the best yet honestly....and i agree with your point and liked the video...satisfying definitely.

Its the rest of the goofy stuff thats killing it for me (horrible CPU AI on HARD, huge amount of INTs etc)...Hope retail is differant.

I've actually seen this too but to an extreme as well. Both against me and me doing it. Sometimes its at the point where the rb knows he is falling and keeps pumping those legs to get the first, or I saw a TE catch over the middle and turn because he needed 4 or 5 yards for the td and blazed a trail in knowing exactly where the goal was.

One of my fav plays was a 7 yard run I made for a TD and my rb looked almost punch drunk after the first hit, and was hit/grazed by 2 more guys before falling into the endzone. I was pumped. It's like there's an extra AI awareness when they know something good is 'possible' and go for it.

on the downside, there does seem to be a minor problem with player-controlled awareness of bumping into your own team and falling. This happens sometimes, but not very much...it makes me wish they used the all-pro formula of the runner putting his hand on the blocker and almost steering him, rather than tripping up feet.

I can't believe I'm still wanting to play this demo more it's crazy....I have RDR for ship sakes!

Haha, I know how you feel man. I rented it from blockbuster, so i should clearly be spending all my time with that instead. Yet I'll start playing Backbreaker-- "just for a few minutes." Minutes end up being hours and then it's time for bed!

This is the first demo in a LONG time that I've played this much. There's just something awesome about it that I can't get enough. The game has its flaws, no doubt, but it just seems to capture the essence of pigskin fun so well. I feel like almost all the mistakes I make in the game are actually my fault, not an animation glitch or other weird uncontrollable issues. I'm striving to be better and better.

This 2 quarter, 2 minute demo is killing me! I need the full game now to satisfy my urge!

Re: (Video) Player awareness of field position + big back momentum

Good post. Every short yardage situation has been different for me, and you never know what is going to happen. I was concerned with so many men lined up on "D" that every run would be stuffed (this has been a problem which has plagued many a football game in the past.) It's the little things like what happened in your video that keep me coming back.
