Why do people side with companies over fellow-consumers?

In a dog-eat-dog capitalistic society (seller vs buyer) why do people choose to side/defend/get behind a company? Especially a company that lives by conventional capitalistic principles?

This post isn't a debate on the efficacy of capitalism, but rather, a question to the company-soldiers here who defend a gaming publisher/company/developer at all costs.

I guess my main question is: Shouldn't your loyalties lie with fellow costumers?

If a company uses their muscle/capital to hurt the consumer (i.e. take away avid football fans choices, tell half truths, charge for items that were once free, bait and switch, etc.) and 'people' spoke out about it, wouldn't you side with the consumer in these instances?

I'm really confused when EA announces a program like "Online Pass" which is basically crippling the product while keeping the same price point ... while non-coincidentally being the only NFL video game on the market ... how some people can actually fight/debate with frustrated NFL video game fans. Unless you're employed/own stock in the company, there's something very odd about that dynamic.

What does this have to do with Madden? I mean really? You seem to have a problem with EA.
