Does sending young players down to the minors help?

I'm really struggling to hit with Jason Heyward. Through 100 AB's he's hitting .162 with 3 HR and 5 RBI but all of those homers came early. I'm wondering if I should send him to AAA for a week and then call him back up.

Any thoughts? Or should I just ride it out and hope he improves?

Did he have the cold symbol next to his name? Sometimes if you can get enough hits to remove that symbol, it's obviously easier to hit with that person.

Re: Does sending young players down to the minors help?

I put David Freese down there after he came off an injury. He was hitting around .200 when he went down. He was there for about a month, called him back up and he ended the season hitting .243.

Now whether it works or this was a fluke, I don't know, but thats my only experience of sending a guy down to work out the kinks.

Have you tried moving him in your line up? Sometimes that works, try swapping him down a spot.

Is he struggling against both leftys and rightys? I was struggling with Brandon Wood but he was doing decent against right handers(.260) but an auto out against leftys(.085). He's hitting .315 after being in a platoon for the past month and a half.

Yeah I moved him down to 7th, still can't get anything going with him. He's struggling vs everyone, I also think I'm pressing when he comes up to the plate because I want to get a hit with him so bad. He's hitting it hard though but it's right at people. I just can't buy a hit with him.

I would send him down. With some of my young guys, like Cahill, I found that when they have the cold symbol, it is easier for them to come out of it in the minors (maybe because I am not the one playing with him). I guess you have to think of it like what you would do in real life if your stud prospect is really struggling. You may really like the player, but you also need to do what is best for your team. I hate Jack Cust, and yet I sent down Rosales, who I like, because one was batting 270 with power and the other was batting 220 with no power and making an error every game he played in.
