Question about player roles.

I know the difference between the starters, sixth man, role players, prospects, and benchwarmers. My question involve the options within those roles, such as for starters, there are, your position as starter is guaranteed, you're replaceable if an upgrade comes along, and i want you to be the star of the team. Does these options make any differences? If so, what does it affect? Playing time, morale, whatever? Thanks to anyone that can help.
