Rookie starting higher than potential?!?!

This has happened MANY times to me in the draft. I get a player rated 75-70 and when I look at his potential, it is like 65. How is this possible?

Also, can non-rookie players (a.k.a. already in the league) out-play their potentials?

Lastly, can you like trade draft picks and such?

Re: Rookie starting higher than potential?!?!

Don't draft high overall guys, they always seem to have low potentials. I actually ended up drafting pretty well(three 80's potential guys, rest mid to low 70's pot), and everyone I selected was under a 70 overall.

If you still do not get some guys with high potential, go take a look at the top 100 prospects list. There will be plenty of them without a team . I didn't sign any of the guys because I actually drafted pretty well, but if I hadn't drafted any guys over a 75 or so potential, I would've signed probably two(which is the amount of 88-99 potential guys the cpu usually drafts).

Also, do players have to play to progress? And do they have to do well?

Potential isn't like in Madden. It's a rating, not a cap.

Go to edit player, and then scroll over a few pages and potential will be the top attribute.
