CPU Baserunning

In what is otherwise a pretty darn good baseball game, the CPU baserunning is starting get on my nerves.

I'm hoping this is being looked at in the 2nd patch but I have seen multiple incidents when a CPU batter hits a ball off the wall and only gets a single because a runner on first or second takes off, stops, retreats, and then goes to 3rd, but the batter only stays at first.

It seems that anytime a ball is hit in the air the runners will stop even on occasions where it is obviously going to be a base hit.

Re: CPU Baserunning

My biggest beef is the CPU control of the baserunners when I'm batting. I'm constantly having runners on first base thrown out trying to advance to second when the batter gets a line drive base hit. It seems the runner's first motion is often to go back to the previous base. If I manually advance the runner shortly after the crack of the bat, there's still a big delay in getting them moving in the right direction.

I've been frustrated to see very little discussion of this over the last couple of years.

I"m seeing a problem with cpu controlled baserunners not tagging from 3rd on deep sac flies as well. Anybody else seeing this?

Re: CPU Baserunning

It happens a lot, especially on sac flies. I hope they fix it.

All of the above. Plus the runner behind the play won't advance to the next base if you don't throw to the cutoff man. It's fairly bad.

Had this happen to me in My Player mode today. Strangely enough, it was the first time I'd ever seen the "Sacrifice Fly" challenge. I loaded a Power Swing, crushed a ball to the warning track, and the runner on third went halfway home, then retreated to 3B when the out was recorded. Made no effort to tag and score at all. Cost me SPs!

Re: CPU Baserunning

I almost broke my controller during my last game. Bottom of the 15th inning and i'm down 5-4. 0 outs and I have men on 2nd and 3rd. Two fly balls in right center and the guy didn't tag up on 3rd to advance. The first caught me off guard because I thought he would, but of course he didn't. The second I tried to tag up, but it automatically had the guy on 2nd base selected and I got him to tag up, then when I tried to go to tag on 3rd it was too late and the center fielder was always throwing the ball to the cutoff man. It's a good thing I had Ryan Howard up and he drove in two runs to win it, but damn, this game is annoying when it comes to baserunning.

I had a situation tonight with men on first and second, 2 outs, I bloop a single to right center and the guy on second advanced halfway to third and waited to see if the ball would drop, completely ignoring the fact that there were 2 outs. Ive also noticed the cpu being way too aggressive with my baserunners when the pitcher throws a ball in the dirt
