Re: The Association (2K10)

LeBron and Wade revamp power in the NBA

Going into the stacked 2010 offseason, rumors swirled around LeBron and Dwayne Wade leaving their troubled teams for an organization that could provide them with talent. They did just that, packed their bags, and went to the Garden State.

On Team USA in the 2008 Summer Olympics, Wade and James had fantasized about playing together on the same team. Now they get the chance to do just that, on the New Jersey Nets. The Nets, with their new owner Mikhail Prokhorov, and part-owner Jay-Z offered them both max-contracts, an offer they couldn't refuse. Together, the two all-stars will join a team with young up-and-comers including point guard Devin Harris, 3rd year center Brook Lopez, and sharpshooter Chris Douglas-Roberts. With this starting 5, and some young talent off the bench we could see the biggest turnaround in NBA history, from a team that finished in last place in the Eastern Conference in 2009.

When LeBron James and Dwayne Wade went to their press conference they showed off their new jerseys. LeBron as #6, and Wade wearing #0 (Both #23 and #3 have been retired by the Nets). When asked what their expectations would be for this year, LeBron answered confidently, "Win an NBA Championship, and hold the single-season best record of all time." While these may be lofty expectations, with this new team, anything is possible.

Re: The Association (2K10)

Big Names Move to Big Places

While Wade and LeBron stole the spotlight, many other free agent signings changed the NBA picture.

It started with the Knicks signing star forward Chris Bosh from the Toronto Raptors to a maximum deal. This coupled with the signing of Tracy McGrady, and the Knicks look like a serious contender. This move absolutely devastated the Raptors who refused to trade Bosh at last year's trade deadline in hope that he would re-sign. Bosh immediately decided to leave Toronto, and wanted Orange and Blue.

Elsewhere, Chicago just missed on Dwayne Wade. What could've been with a Rose and Wade combo will never be, but they did land big man Carlos Boozer from the Utah Jazz. Another big man switched places with Amare Stoudemire leaving Phoenix to go to the Golden State Warriors.

There were some smaller acquisitions in the free agent market with the Big Diesel, in Shaquille O'Neal, leaving Cleveland and joining the Mavericks. Short 5'9 Nate Robinson decided to go out West to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Rebounding stud Marcus Camby signed a short deal with the 76ers. Big names Dirk Nowitzki, Joe Johnson, and Rudy Gay re-signed with their squads and didn't test free agency.

Free agency wasn't the only way teams stacked their rosters with talent. The Jazz acquired Kevin Martin in a trade with the Kings in exchange for Andrei Kirilenko and Kyle Korver. The duo of Deron Williams and Kevin Martin can strike some fear into teams out West. Another small but significant trade ended up shipping Danilo Gallinari to the Timberwolves, and allowed the Knicks to free up cap-space. The Timberwolves failed to trade Ricky Rubio, who is supposed to come overseas next year, but they are continuing to shop him for draft picks around the league.

A busy off-season has really shaken up this league, and the power has shifted. An enticing year ensues as teams try and knock of the defending champs, San Antonio Spurs after their NBA title over the Boston Celtics.
