The Bellator Thread

Figured we could have a thread for all things Bellator.

Bellator has been making a bit of noise in the MMA community with all the new, really solid signings for their second season. Hopefully this thread will help keep up with the promotion as it appears that they are far from done with news for their upcoming season.

Updated Fighter List

Re: The Bellator Thread

I really enjoyed the first season of Bellator and I'm looking forward to the second season in April.

Re: The Bellator Thread

Looking forward to this. Last season was really good. Every show had atleast 2 or 3 fights worth watching and atleast 1 highlight finish. Plus this one is going to be on real TV.

I hope Uriah Hall makes it in to one of their tournaments.

Bellator Fighting Championships announced today that three-time world champion Greco-Roman wrestler Joe Warren (2-1) has signed with Bellator. He will compete in the promotion’s upcoming featherweight tournament this April on FOX Sports Net, NBC, and Telemundo.

Warren is known throughout MMA for making one of the most remarkable debuts in the sport’s history. He battered former WEC Champion Chase Beebe and took out Japanese star Kid Yamamoto in his first two professional fights, before losing to highly regarded Bibiano Fernandes in October.

Bellator is going to make a big announcement tomorrow, it's expected to be the signing of Roger Huerta.

Sources close to the situation confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that the popular lightweight received his formal release from the UFC this week, which opened the door to finalize a deal with the upstart promotion.

Bellator has called a video press conference for Monday at 3 p.m. ET that will stream live at Bellator.com.

Huerta is the seventh 155-pound competitor added to Bellator’s second season, which kicks off April 8 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The twelve-week season airs live on FOX Sports Net affiliates on Thursday nights, and highlights packages air on NBC and Telemundo over the weekend. Tournament participants in the featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, and middleweight classes battle for the right to face season one's tournament champions.

That surprising. I like Bellator but why would Huerta sign with the 3rd most well known promotion?

Re: The Bellator Thread

I'm thinking Bellator may be offering Huerta more money than Strikeforce. He met with Strikeforce initially, and that's where most expected him to sign, but they didn't get a deal done.

If Roger is making more in Bellator, then this is a great signing for both sides. Strikeforce gets their biggest name yet, and if Huerta ends up fighting Alvarez for the title, it will be the biggest fight in the company so far.

What happens if Huerta loses though? It would have ben smarter just to have Huerta face Alverez than risk having Huerta lose and losing that fight's cache.
