Anyone else feel a conspiracy here?

I've been playing sports games for a long time now and I've been noticing a bit of a trend, 2 steps forward, 2 steps back. It seems that the next version of a sports game gets just barely better in a couple of ways, but gets worse in a couple of ways too. Or, they'll have 2 good years of progressively better games, then go backwards and forward.

I think they do this on purpose. I think they're holding back all the goods. If they made a sports game too good, then you wouldn't buy next years game and instead, you'd wait a few years inbetween.

Anyone else think this is the case? It's getting on my nerves. Every year I buy a b-ball game and see it's potential but there are just a few small things that really kill the game for me, so I look forward to the next game. Next comes and the problems I had with the last is better now, but some things that were just fine are now broken. *sigh*

I'm frustrated too as I get older and expect so much more, especially with the power that a PS3 has. ..but.. it's not a conspiracy, it's just lack of talent. I'm not naming any names but have you seen all of the "devs" that come here? Some are great, and others are WAY out of touch and shouldn't be making sports games for hardcore fans. It's just a lack of talent that's holding us back right now, it's no conspiracy. Check out MLB The Show, check out NCAA 2003, check out College Hoops 2k5-2k8, check out EA's NHL series which is getting better. It's the talent, or lack thereof, that is the problem.

Both 2K and EA have completely removed the post game from both of their bball titles over the years.

That's laughable to say the least.

You got to look at it like this, they really only have a 8month plus dev cycle so there is not much time to do all the things they want, if they had the staff of GTA IV and years to make the game then the games would be better..

The post game is serious in 2k10 he must not have the game to say that.

I don't think the devs are to be blamed, not at all. The developers of those games are amongst the very best in the business. You can't just study a programming language tutorial you purchased for a few dollars and expect to walk right into 2K Sports or EA, and just thinking about how difficult it must be to get players to behave exactly like their real-life counterparts, for example, is quite daunting.

You can put the blame on short development cycles and corporate executives making poor decisions, but to say the developers aren't talented enough is to be misinformed. Sports games are very complex, and given how little time they have between two releases, problems are bound to occur.
