How is ultimate team going?

I was just wondering how ultimate team was going for everyone?
What did you name your team?
How have you decided to build your team?
Do you play online or against CPU
Do you bother playing it?

Re: How is ultimate team going?

I will tell you about mine (even if you aren't interested lol)

I went with Heywood Devils (Hometown) since my 1st team was rubbish I decided to supersim (mistake!!!) only got 34 coins and had loads of injuries.
Didn't have a LG and so was searching through the auction and managed to find a cheap (but rubbish) one and won the bid.

Still only played one game but looking to get online soon and try them out

Re: How is ultimate team going?

I think the interface and the basic structure of how the game works are fantastic. After three games, I came away with a desire to really delve into building a team. And honestly, it scratches that same itch that APFB had with creating a team of players, and adds an element of long term strategy in an interesting way. I really love the entire concept.

But I'm afraid that there are some built-in imbalances that makes the grind of improving a team too slow. This is to create a situation of forcing us to pay money to keep our teams. I'm doubtful it works, because too many of us will opt out of this mode, leaving a pretty barren landscape of cheesers.

By having zero choice in who you are matched up with, and dropping means forfeiting points, but it still counts as a game played on your cards. So while I trudge along, building my 63 OVR team to a 80 OVR team piece by piece, I will have to do so in landscape that rewards folks for not only paying money to build up their team, but points for running up the score.

This could all be made tolerable if they would allow friends to play each other with their ultimate teams. But there is no option to so. I suspect that a fear of gamers manipulating the system to build-up points which in turn could play havoc with the economic system of the auction houses. Plus, I'm pretty sure that groups of friends would be less likely to feel pressured to build-up their teams by sending EA money.

So I doubt EA is going to ever allow friends to play. So even though the entire concept works so well, and the strategy something that was interesting and fun to do, the way in which EA is monetizing this game destroys that by rewarding a style of play that a ton of us aren't interested in. Had this been a $5-$10 download, they would probably get my money. But I'm not sending them money based on how well they can tweak their system to force me to pay for new cards to maintain my team.

For now, I am going to keep playing. If I feel like their is too much grind to building a competitive team, I'll just move on to something else. I'm hoping to be surprised, and find the potential of this mode to not be spoiled.

What is the end goal? Is it just to build a subjective ultimate team? I don't understand what would drive someone to want to build an ultimate team...Do you go through a season or a franchise?

Re: How is ultimate team going?

It looks too good to be true, and its just that.

Despite them saying that you don't need to put cash into the game you will get to the point where you are stucked if you don't spend real money. Its usually after first 10 games. Players all have contracts and contracts go from around 5-10 games, so you need to invest into contract extantion cards to keep players around. In 10 games you can expect to get max of 5000 points. For that money you won't be able to even afford to extend contracts of all your starting players. You can't buy enough booster packs to get enough contract cards and contract cards on sale are all super expensive, so you'll be stuck without any way to even fill starting lineup and then you'll notice you can't create new team to start over.

My advice is not to get into it unless you are willing to spend some real money on it. And by real money I mean some 20$ a month to keep your team running.

My team is the Itchy Beavers. I lost my first two games to the CPU (Browns & Lions) and have won my last three. Your starter pack should be renamed sh!t pack. They start you off with players that are no higher than 68 overall. It's fun though.

You don't even need to spend a dime to get into it. If you enjoy playing Madden football every day you can collect coins just by playing. I'm able to at least complete 2-3 games a night.

Re: How is ultimate team going?

I'm going to give it a shot still despite a ton of things that anger me.

So, if you back out of the game lobby you lost a game played on your cards? If not, you could just wait until you find a suitable opponent. I've just played whoever I've ran into so far so I can't tell.
