joe montana passing mechanic or madden passing mechanic

this is what joe montana 94 look like. go to 2:06 to see the passing game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vkYPxWWvtg

the passing game in madden suck ***, and it is not fun. i think the joe montana 94 passing mechanic is going to be perfect for madden on next gen because we have two analog stick on the pad that can control things in a 360o direction.

these is how i think it should work...
we should use the left stick to control the qb
we should use the right stick to control an icon
and we should use the L2(ps3) or Lt(xbox 360) to throw the pass. the lt is going to be better than tapping a botton.

advantages
1. it is going to make the passing game more realitic
2. it is going to make the passing game more challenging, but easy to control.
3. we can throw the ball any were we want on the field( which means that we can throw any kind of pass we want, for example back shoulder pass, jump ball, route base passing, low bullet, high bullet, and soft bullet.
4. it is going to make scrambling more difficult because you have to keep your eye down the field.

disadvantages
throw power and throw accuracy is going to be useless which means that drew brees is as good as russel. edit, if implemented right, throw power and throw accurace can still mean something.
if ea dont want to change the current passing gm, they should make it an option.

There is a thread talking about the passing mechanics in Madden a few threads above this one.

You could suggest Montana in that one. A lot of good discussion has been going on in that thread.

My opinion.

Man...I used to love that game...wore it out!

I must admit though, I had no idea Tom Hammond was doing the play-by-play back then too.

I actually played that game alot and used the harder passing mechanic in the game where you moved the icon. It was too hard even for me as a teenager to use.

The problem was that you had to cycle to each receiver and then hit the A button to pass which would then bring up the icon. Then you would move the directional pad to place the icon in an area to lead the receiver. Unfortunately in a quick passing game the process takes entirely too long. I thought at the time that it was a great idea in thought but poor in execution. It never caught on cause like I said it was too hard compared to the easy madden pass windows at the time that we were so used to.

We (I was actually the only one who bought the game, I lended it out to my friends, thanks dad) found a way around it though. What we did was just do an early receiver cycle before the snap so if we wanted a quick pass we could just press A and then have the icon on screen immediately and use the icon as the reticle for any receiver. Problem with that was you could not move your QB and he was a sitting duck.

Now with today's advanced dual stick control this idea can actually be used in a game efficiently. I was actually talking about this game to a friend on how a game used a different passing mechanic. SEGA at the time was at the forefront of all these new different gameplay mechanics to sports games. Gotta give Sega props for trying it. Too bad they never went back to it, understandably.

if ea wants to make my dream come true, they should just add these passing mechanic to the game. back in the days i remember that we choose which kind of passing mechanic we want.

Re: joe montana passing mechanic or madden passing mechanic

Seems like the SNES/Genesis era had games where the graphics weren't super, but the gameplay and options were.

I wonder why that changed? Just more emphasis on graphics over the years and how much resources (CPU, memory, disc space) just left less room/time for other stuff?

Though that passing mechanic would be interesting. Could you do it while getting just 3 seconds in the pocket? Seems like that game gave more time in the pocket?

Actually at that time the conscensus thought was Montana 94 was leaps and bound better graphically compared to madden at that time. Unfortunately Madden was so well marketed and popular even at that time no one gave it a try, at least not in my area where cash to try out "different games" was not in abundance.

2k brung about alot of innovation, over the years since - pass rush moves, maximum passing, running moves other than just spinning, team specific playbooks, all came from SEGA and their NFL series first.

The time in the pocket was about the same as any other game which is why no one used the passing mechanic in the game. In that game they gave you options on how you wanted to pass. The video that is posted above, the person was not using it. Probably because it was too hard to use.
