Re: rugby game?

as of this moment there is no rugby game in the works, though rugby fans are hoping to see an ea sports rugby game come out in Q1 or Q2 of next year in preparation for the 2011 rugby world cup (probably not going to happen though).

While we're on the topic however, I'd just like to mention my "dream feature" for a rugby game.

I'd love to take control of an entire region in a rugby union, and play with each team from the ground up throughout the year, all the way up to the national side of the country that union is in. For example...

I could take control of the Taranaki Rugby Union (in New Zealand), and select from the local players a squad for the Taranaki team of the Air New Zealand Cup. Then, after the Air NZ Cup season is over, I'd move on to the Super 14 region that Taranaki is in (the Hurricanes), and select my squad from the available players in the unions that feed into the Hurricanes, as well as any other players that were not protected by other rugby unions. Then after the Super 14 season finished, I would move on to the All Blacks and select players for the team, and then play test matches, tours, and even build up for a world cup every 4 years...

Wow, I would play literally 30 years in that mode... I dunno what you'd call it, maybe "Union Manager Mode" or something. But I think it'd be great. The same could be done for teams in other countries that have domestic leagues that feed larger leagues and national teams, i.e. Munster playing in the Magners League and Heineken Cup and then move up and select the side for the Irish national team.

Would anyone else be interested in this mode? Man, I'd buy that rugby game RIGHT NOW.

Would without a doubt be my favorite sports game of all time if we ever saw that.

No joke eh? Somebody start the picket lines or kidnap someone at EA to make this happen...

Re: rugby game?

i just want ANY rugby union game on next gen. i realize it's a much smaller demographic of people who buy/play rugby games but i think ea's previous rugby releases were well supported.

If I recall, the previous rugby games sold pretty well. There's still a big market for the game in the, UK, France, and Australia. Then again, to develop a next-gen title, even with a proprietary engine already in place, costs a lot more than it used to.

I'd have settled for the last-gen rugby games being slightly updated each year. At this point I just want anything, but it's also kind of depressing thinking about if we do get a game, it'll likely be a starting from scratch point like the first next-gen sports titles. That all means, that it would be several more years before we get a really solid game, in all-likelihood.

i would still be playing rugby 2007 if they could just have added some higher difficulty levels. the game was FAR too easy. lineouts were a joke- so kicking to touch was a sure fire way to move the ball up the pitch (because i knew i'd always win the lineouts) on top of that, the cpu committed too many penalties. hopefully, if they do make another game, they'll add sliders so we can tweak some of these things to make it more challenging.
