Focus On The Upcoming Draft

Good people,

When is it a good time to start scouting players who are in the draft? Also, are there any good ideas on a draft strategy for the game? For example, since I don't have a true center, and there seems to be none coming up in the upcoming FA - I am focusing on drafting a center.

Any thoughts, ideas or direction would be great appreciated.

Thanks,
Blitz

I'd also like to know. I usually never do this, and I should probably start.

Yeah, this game will soon be the longest I've played any sports title - and perhaps any single game.

Since I'm enjoying it for the long haul, I can't wait to find out.

Re: Focus On The Upcoming Draft

Start right at the beginning of the season. Concentrate on players where you expect to draft, and a little higher because players frequently drop in the draft. Try to get 3-4 scouting reports on players you want, 2 on other players you might find interesting. Do the scouting yourself, don't let the CPU do it for you - IMO they concentrate on the wrong players to scout.

You'll notice there's typically a lack of Cs in the draft, the good ones tend to go high. But the CPU also tends to ignore drafting Cs, so you can get good ones late into the draft.

Sometimes you can get a goodmplayer late in the first round/early in the second round, so if you have a spot you want to fill, but is not urgent, you can draft a player there and let them develop for a couple of years. Send them to the dleague, they can gain some skills there.

Also try to have decent scouts. I always try to grab scouts that are B rated or higher.

I agree with Kully. In my Association I control several teams but I let the CPU do the scouting on one of the teams. The CPU literally starts scouting from day one of the season, so you shouldn't be far behind in your own player scouting.

Re: Focus On The Upcoming Draft

I control all 30 teams in my Association, and I let the CPU scout for the other 29 teams but I manually pick which player to scout for my team. I usually start at the beginning of the season then gauge the projected draft prospects based on my team's success. But it is fun to scout the Lottery picks to see what they might be like down the road.

Re: Focus On The Upcoming Draft

I hire the best two scouts as soon as I start my association, to go along with the one I already have. As soon as I can, I start scouting, starting with the top five players, then the lottery, then the rest of the first round. Usually, you can scout everybody twice and get around 10 players three or four scouts this way.
