Now Presenting: Mr.Clutch Himself

In the past 4 years, which player has made the most game winning shots with under 2.0 sec remaining in a game? The answer: Dirk Nowitzki, and he is waaaaay ahead of any other player.

Dwyane Wade is 2nd with five shots. Nobody else made more than four, including Kobe & LeBron. Dirk Nowitzki leads the NBA with EIGHT of those shots.

Dirk has a long history of clutch shots. Buzzer beaters, game breaking, game tying or game winning... 4th quarter or overtime... regular season or playoffs, Dirk has gotten it done. These video are just what's available on youtube --- a small sampling of all the times Dirk came through in the clutch.

Game Winnning 3-point Shot with 0.9 seconds remaining against Bucks

Game Winner Against the Suns with 1.1 sec remaining in 4th

Dirk by himself Outscores the entire Phoenix Suns Team 22-20 in the 4th quarter of Game#5 of Playoffs

Game Winning Shot Against 76ers with 0.0 sec remaining

3-point Dagger in the final minute in Game #7 of Playoffs against Trailblazers

Several Clutch Shots in the Final Minute in Portland (regular season)

Game Tying Clutch Shot in the World Championships in 2006 (Germany vs Angola)

Game Tying drive at San Antonio

Game-winning Dagger with 0.7 seconds remaining at L.A.

Game Winning Shot with 1.0 seconds left against Toronto

Dirk's 53 points outduels McGrady's 48 points

Down by 9, Dirk scores 12 pts in the final 3 minutes to win Game#5 Playoffs against Warriors

Game Tying Shot Against the Lakers with 2.0 seconds remaining in 4th

Dirk scores 29 points in the 4th quarter in a frantic comeback victory last month

Several Game Breaking Clutch shots in regular & Playoff games 2007-8

A clutch tip-in near the end of regulation, then 11 points in Overtime to beat the Spurs

Game-winning 3 pointer to beat Orlando at the buzzer

Dirk vs Team USA: Dirk's clutch 3-pointer with 3 sec remaining
(but Iverson answers back with a game winner at the buzzer)

Dirk scores 19 points in the 4th quarter, and ties the game twice in the final 2 minutes of a comeback victory in Game#4 Playoff game against the Nuggets.

Game Winning Shot Against Spain with 3.0 sec remaining for the Silver Medal

Dirk ties the game to force overtime in Game#7 Playoffs against Spurs. He eliminated them in overtime (37 pts, 15 rbs).

Buzzer Beating Game Winner Against Toronto in OT

Game winning basket with 1.1 sec remaining at Indiana

Game-tying shot to force overtime. Then later in OT, makes the game winning basket with 1.8 sec remaining.

INTERESTING FACTS:

Nowitzki's career playoff stats are even better than his career regular season stats:
  • PPG: 22.7 (25.5 Playoffs)
  • FG%: 44.1% (45.4%)
  • RPG: 8.6 (11.0)
  • APG: 2.7 (3.1)
  • FT%: 87% (93%)

He has advanced to the playoffs NINE times
He has advanced to the 2nd round SIX times
He has advanced to the Conference Finals TWICE
He has reached the NBA Finals ONCE

In his 12-year career, Dirk Nowitzki has played in five double-elimination playoff games. He is UNDEFEATED in all those games, having won every single one of them:
  • 4-0 in the Game#7 of a 7-game series (Spurs, Kings, Rockets, Blazers)
  • 1-0 in the Game#5 of a 5-game series (Jazz)

I can't understand why some people still question his grit. I think it's mostly from dorks with selective memory. They remember the 5 games he choked on, and conveniently "forget" about the 50 games he was clutch on. And so this thread is a reminder of those clutch games people are so quick to forget.

These are incontrovertible proof (on video) that Dirk has been more clutch than 99% of the players in the NBA. The next time someone tries to diss on Dirk, please link them to this page. Make them eat their own words.

Re: Now Presenting: Mr.Clutch Himself

I guess I'll get it started...

IMO Dirk is not tough enough to win a ring by himself. You hear a lot of superstars talking about having that killer's mentality. I don't see that mentality in Dirk as much as I should from a player his status. He's a good player and some say he's gonna be in the Hall of Fame, but when it comes to willing a team to a ring I don't see Dirk being able to do that.

In the 2006 Finals his ppg dropped. You would think a MVP/superstar would step his game up more than ever in the Finals...D-Wade did. Dirk is a good player but not tough mentality and physically.

Dirk should be killing the league. He should have more than 1 MVP trophy. He can be the ultimate matchup nightmare. Dirk should be averaging 30 and at least 11. He has that type of potential and skill set but the only thing that's keeping Dirk from achieving all that is Dirk's mentality.

Re: Now Presenting: Mr.Clutch Himself

The only reason Dirk didn't win a ring in 2006 was because of Stern, Bennet Salvatore, and his cronies. If you deny it, you simply didn't watch the series.

I watched the series and if I remember correctly Dirk is the one that missed KEY freethrows in Games 3 and 5, not Stern and Bennet Salvatore.
