-Fantasy Draft Bears Chise-

Hello all. I got bored one day and was digging around on the forums here and noticed a thread that interested me. I wish I could recall exactly who had the idea so I could properly credit them. That being said, the post in question, suggested that as a way to make Fantasy Drafts interesting for him and his friends they would put all the possible positions in a hat and draw to decide what position to draft on any given Round.

I decided why the hell not, it sounds fun...

I will not I took this a step further and made slips that reflected all the minimums required as well (i.e. there were two QB slips in the hat, three HB, etc.)

DRAFT PHILOSOPHY

I decided going into the draft that I would run as close to a West Coast offense as possible, along with running a 4-3 defense. I generally will always take younger players in the hopes of developing them.

DRAFT PICKS BY ROUND (COMMENTS FOLLOW PICKS)

Round 1 - RE J. Allen
-great pass rusher, and a great start to building my 4-3.-
Round 2 - K R. Gould
-yes, yes...I drew K second...FML. Good power and a CHI fan so no brainer-
Round 3 - WR W. Welker
-great time to draft a solid #1 with great hands, route running, and CIT-
Round 4 - RG J. Evans
-building the o-line for this and the next two picks-
Round 5 - RT J. Otah
Round 6 - LT J. Gaither
Round 7 - CB D. Rodgers-Cromartie
Round 8 - CB A. Talib
Round 9 - QB P. Rivers
-struggled here choosing between Rivers and McNabb. Rivers accuracy beat out the pluses of McNabbs speed to me.-
Round 10 - HB R. Bush
-great speed, great hands, great CIT, great fit-
Round 11 - C R. Kalil
Round 12 - LE R. Geathers
Round 13 - LOLB B. Cushing
Round 14 - CB F. Washington
Round 15 - ROLB K. Rivers
Round 16 - LG J. Greco
Round 17 - C M. Unger
-ugh...backup C already-
Round 18 - P M. Scifres
-eek...well at least those are done-
Round 19 - DT M. Patterson
Round 20 - MLB J. Laurinatis
Round 21 - FS C. Godfrey
Round 22 - LOLB P. Tinoisamoa
-again earlier for a backup than I would have liked but good value here-
Round 23 - ROLB A. Jordan
Round 24 - TE C. Baker
Round 25 - TE M. Schobel
-yeah...back-to-back TEs. That is what I get for drawing out of a Cubs hat-
Round 26 - DT K. Dawson
Round 27 - SS D. Landry
Round 28 - RG R. Sims
Round 29 - HB P. Cobbs
-maybe not the smartest pick here, alot had come off of the board. I was looking for a young guy with good speed and hands-
Round 30 - MLB L. Williams
Round 31 - LG J. Parquet
Round 32 - DT I. Scott
Round 33 - FB J. Lane
-another possible blunder, was looking for good strength and carry-
Round 34 - FS M. Adams
Round 35 - SS. K Ellison
Round 36 - CB C. Francies
Round 37 - HB TJ Duckett
-just looking for a bruiser with carry here, a solid 3rd down RB-
Round 38 - LE T. Brayton
Round 39 - QB A. Brink
-please God, don't let Rivers go down-
Round 40 - WR M. Thomas
-wow...unforseen...37 rounds between WRs, going to make it difficult to run a solid WCO.

-I belive all the following picks fell outside of the requirements, I placed all the slips back in the hat and started again..and as you can see...got screwed...-

Round 41 - RE M. Montgomery
Round 42 - LT W. Justice
Round 43 - WR E. Wilford
Round 44 - RT G. Cadogan
Round 45 - WR D. Looker
Round 46 - TE G. Barnidge
Round 47 - LOLB P. Thomas
Round 48 - C R. Turner
Round 49 - C. J. Geisinger

PRESEASON ROSTER MOVES/RESIGNINGS

I decided to lock up the players that I deemed vital to my future success to long term deals.

The players and deals are as follows:

HB Bush - 5 year, $40.65M with a $16.25M bonus
WR Welker - 6 year, $51.66M with a $19.56M bonus

Re: -Fantasy Draft Bears Chise-

The first five weeks will be abbreviated versions of what I plan to do as I just decided to start this.

Week 1

Game - at Packers - W (48-13)

Passing
Rivers - 32/41 for 351 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT

Rushing
Bush - 11 for 42

Recieving
Barnidge - 8 for 98, TD
Welker - 7 for 71, 2 TD
Lane - 5 for 40, TD

NOTE: R. Bush went down with a season ending torn pectoral muscle. He was placed on IR after the game.

Week 2

Game - vs. Steelers - W (41-38) OT

Passing
Rivers - 26/42 for 371 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT

Rushing
Cobbs - 14 for 21, TD

Recieving
Welker - 9 for 145, 2 TD

Defense
Rodgers-Cromartie - 1 INT
A. Talib - 1 INT, 1 TD

NOTES: The Cobb experiment failed gloriously and after some serious soul searching I decided to trade for another HB.

"The Bears have traded a 1st Round pick to the Broncos for D. McFadden (HB)"

Week 3

Game - at Seahawks - W (25-22) OT

Passing
Rivers - 23/39 for 249 yards, TD, INT

Rushing
McFadden - 9 for 26

Recieving
Baker - 6 for 47
McFadden - 6 for 62
Lane - 1 for 1, TD

Defense
Rivers - 2 TFL, 1 SACK, 1 FF
Geathers - 1 TFL, 1 SACK
Allen - 3 TFL, 1 SACK
Scott - 1 TFL, 1 SACK
Patterson - 2 TFL, 1 SACK
Rodgers-Cromartie - 1 INT for 106 yards, TD

NOTES: W. Welker went down with a dislocated elbow in the first quarter. He will be out three weeks.

Week 4

Game - vs Lions - W (37-17)

Passing
Rivers - 13/21 for 67 yards, TD

Rushing
McFadden - 15 for 71, TD

Recieving
Thomas - 1 for 11, TD
Wilford - 3 for 21

Defense
Patterson - 1 TFL, 1 SACK
Geathers - 1 TFL, 1 SACK
Rodgers-Cromartie - INT for 86 yards, TD
Jordan - FF

Re: -Fantasy Draft Bears Chise-

I think you could have waited until round 12/13 at least to take Gould. But it looks like you got a lot of players that you wanted/fit your system. Looks good!

Re: -Fantasy Draft Bears Chise-

In case it wasn't made clear. The order was determined by pulling slips with position names on them from a hat. Had I had a choice I would have taken a K as one of my last positions drafted.
