Contemplating The Switch (Back) To Live...

Hello all,

First and foremost, I hope all of you guys that purchased either 2K or Live this year are enjoying their game thus far. I think it's safe to say that either way you go, you will be satisfied.

For years now, I've been playing the 2K series. I've owned every version of the series since 2K2. That being said, prior to the inception of the 2K series, I had grown up playing EA Sports' NBA Live. For nearly 10 years, in my opinion, 2K was the undisputed champ of the basketball video game industry. This year, however, the race is almost too close to call for me.

Thus far, I was able to download and play both demos for 360. While I was blown away by Live, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in what 2K10 offers. To me, 2K10 looked and played nearly identically to 2K9! It was quite difficult for me to see many glaring additions. Perhaps they are unable to be seen by just playing a quarter in the demo? By contrast, Live seemed to really up it's game. The sound is unbelievable, the game does a fantastic job capturing the atmosphere. In addition, the game looks and plays more like a game of real basketball in my eyes.

I'm still use to the 2K controls, prefer the rebounding and the on the ball defense. But Live just looks too good to pass up. I've loved 2K's Association mode and being that I'm unfamiliar with Live, I'm unsure if it matches up to what 2K offers in this area. When it comes down to it, the special features any sports game offers always come second to what matters most, gameplay.

All in all, I'm wondering how many of you guys made the switch from 2K to Live this year, and for what reasons... I've read reviews for both and while 2K is scoring higher in most, I truly feel like it's 2K9 all over again... Anyone else feel like this?

Re: Contemplating The Switch (Back) To Live...

I am another user who made the switch from 2K to Live.

I started out playing with the Live Series from 2002-2006, then when next gen consoles came out I reverted to the 2K Series. A lot of the previews and impressions on Live 10 really grabbed my attention this year and once content was being put out from people who had the game early, I was sold.

Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed 2K over the years, but I've always been waiting for Live to get back to where it was. And I think this is the year. At first when I popped in the game for the first time and played my first game without little practice, the feel and controls were totally different. After my first game (took a pretty bad loss on Pro) I started having second thoughts on whether I should make the swap for 2K10. Luckily I didn't do so, and continued to run some exhibition games which helped a lot. The atmosphere is too much to pass up, the daily rosters & DNA, dyanmic season, and the incredible amount of jersey's, and shoes. Among all those is gameplay is back. They've established a solid foundation on great gameplay and the series is only going to go up from here.

Honestly the only gripes I had that was making me consider 2K was there implementation of the D-League (I would love for Live 11 to have a D-league portion with authentic rosters like they do with their FIBA portion) and there association. I could care less about My Player mode. The NBA Today feature is nice too. But Dynamic season is going to be a blast and I can't wait.

Another thing is, look at NCAA Basketball 10. Look at what they were able to add in the month or two of extra time over Live. They're going to have Live's gameplay improved, PLUS arguable the best since or even better presentation system than NFL 2K5's, CBS AND ESPN, two commentary teams?! What I'm getting at is think of what presentation is going to be like for future EA Sports titles like Madden, NCAA Football and NBA Live 11. Making improvements on the Gameplay, along with making Presentation, Deep/Realistic Dynasty, & the authentic D-League as key features of next year's game, I can't wait for what's in store. All in all I can't be happier with my purchase of NBA Live.

Re: Contemplating The Switch (Back) To Live...

You are entitled to you own opinion about the games you decide to play. Althought, I do want to point out, Live and 2k demos are exactly what they are, demos. As for the official games, I have both and I can say to you, both are good, neither bad (as for 2k's glitches and lag which should be cleared up with a patch and shouldn't stop the average consumer not to buy.)

The game as a whole, Live is really good. They have made great leaps from previous versions and I'm sure anyone who is a gamer can see it (by the visible eye). They definitely have set the bar this year with there gameplay and defensive a.i. They also added something to the game that increases it authenticity, their crowd and dynamic commentary. Not only did they add these features, they kind of went to the old days with their Retro jerseys which made a better look for the game.

2k, on the other hand, seemed to have kept the foundation it had from last year. Is this a bad thing? Not really. 2k9, after all, was a great game in respects to graphics and presentation. Why throw a good thing away? Why not enhance it? Well they did just this. Not only did they enhance it, but they added a face lift to every aspect of the game right down to player emotion sigs. This and more has been added to the game to make it more realistic. When you boot up your game, you will find a completely new look (as you seen in the demo.) You will find that every mode will be playable online (even association mode). They have dramatically added to their association mode even making it to where users can sign players (if you aren't sure about a certain trade) for a 10 day contract. Also allowing the user to send/bring down/up players to the DLeague from/to the NBA.

Well all these and more is added to the games. Of course these games are great. Of course these games are both worth buying. When it comes to these basketball games, you really can't go wrong.

There is more than enough information available to you to make an informed decision about what game you want to play. If you still can't decide, rent it.
