Wildcat? Should it be limited?

Hey Guys

I am looking for some advice on what you guys think about something. I run a online franchise league with 32 human owners. Please when giving advice keep in mind our sites goal is to maintain simulation style football as close to the real NFL.

We have two owners that seem to run the wildcat about 12-17 times a game. Seems to be the only way they can win. This seems to piss off most of my owners because while we all know the wildcat can be stopped on average the Miami Dolphins last season only ran it 6 times per game.

Some of my owners think a limit should be put on it per game.

Do you think they have a point that those people are running it to much? and that a limit should be enforced because it ruins the simulation style we are looking for?

Thanks for your time.

no, you might as well put a cap on screen plays and HB tosses while you're at it

Using the playbook how it's meant to be used isn't cheesing. Being successful at it isn't cheap. You might as well limit the number of times an I Formation can be used since that darn full black keeps picking up blitzes.

Those don't sound like the kind of people I'd want to be in a league with. I really don't see how the Wildcat is that overpowered anyway. There's no way to effectively pass out of it, so it's basically a glorified goal line formation.

No because if you limit the wildcat because it is being used to much, whose to say that the Singleback formation isn't being used to much. Wildcat is just another formation. It's not some forbidden set of plays that should only be used if down by 28 in the fourth quarter.

i was playing my buddy online with the eagles and got into the wildcat formation, he brought everyone to the line and blitzed them and i threw it to a wide open westbrook with desean jackson

the ball was about 10 yards off target but it got there and i scored

Re: Wildcat? Should it be limited?

Assuming you are going for a play time of 10-12 min with 15 sec acc clock...They are using the wildcat a little under 50% of the time. IMO that is not enough to say it is to much. Personally, I think some guys are just mad because they struggle to stop it.

In the end, it comes down to what you want in your league and what your league wants. If it makes most of the league mad then it may be best to kick those two guys to keep the league as a whole going. If you are still unsure, Put it to a vote to see if they want the WC limited or the guys who are using it booted.

Re: Wildcat? Should it be limited?

The Wildcat can be completely shut down if the defense calls the right plays. And with that said, if the defense is not calling the right play to defend it, then why should the offense not be allowed to keep running it? Do you put a limit on the number of run plays a team can do if the defense is calling prevents every play?

A team should be free to run whatever scheme they want to, and force the defense to adjust. That's just my opinion.
