Cap Screwed?

Did anybody else enter Cap HELL in their franchise? I did with the raiders in my 3rd off season. I only had one mistake, not realizing the effect of the cap penalty. I was screwed, so i had to restart, I've decided to take a more cautious approach when trading, and signing. I guess my franchise rust has not worn off.

Between Gerard Warren, Javon Walker, and Tommy Kelly your team gets annihilated by the Cap. Asomugha makes a lot of money but at least he's the best of the best. The other 3 are just terrible.

I'm slowly getting there. I have about 10 million in cap room in year 3 but I have five starters who will be free agents at the end of the season, including Matt Forte who is rated a 95 and Tommie Harris who is already making 10 million per year

I was in the same situation, it took me a long time to figure out that I should never sign a HB, WR, or CB past 33 years old, even if it means a smaller contract and a bigger cap hit other wise you could have a 70 ovr 34 year old taking 12 mil off of your cap and a 20 mil penalty if I cut him.

Does anybody else just re-sign people to 7 yr contracts every 2-3 yrs so that they are always making the smallest amount possible? I never let anybody good or at least worth keeping get below 3 yrs on their contract. I always do this and have plenty of cap room.

I was under the impression that if one performed the resign player option on a player that already had a contract that one has to eat the previous contract (as a cap penalty)... am I wrong on this?
