Dallas vs. Edmonton Gameplay Video

Here is a gameplay video of the Oilers and Stars for anyone who wants to see it. Not the greatest quality, but the blogger did apologize for equipment problems in an earlier video. It's still pretty good nonetheless.

P.S. This link goes to the blog home, so you may have to scroll down to see the video, depending on when you watch it.

Ah yes, the dreaded backhand one-timer rears its ugly head (Eriksson's goal)... It was a great save by Turco at the end, as stated by the blogger. It's driving me nuts to see the AI passing at default and it's got to be the reason why I haven't played the demo as much as I thought I would...

EDIT: Steve_OS did say that lowering the CPU passing sliders does make a difference in his last Q&A, but he didn't go into specifics.

The one thing I hate is how the CPU can pass tape to tape. That is too easy! I hate that, I hope they are more off with the right sliders.

I agree...especially the way the cpu was literally reaching behind its body with one hand to catch the puck...and instantly get the puck into position to pass. Just not realistic...but I hope this video was on normal...not Hardcore setting.

I have noticed while playing the demo that the puck is like its on a magnet to the CPU, any clearing on the PK goes straight to the opposition in Neutral territory...its quite annoying because the exact opposite happens to me.

Positioning matters this year as there's far less suction involved all together. Couple that with the CPU ai being far more puck aware and I'm sure this won't be the last post stating that the cpu beats them to every loose puck and wins every 50/50 battle along the boards.

Personally this hasn't been the case for me playing on hardcore/superstar in the demo, while I do notice the aformentioned speed advantage (that will be elimated in the retail build via sliders) I find that if I stay positionally sound and don't chase in my own end it forces the AI to either work it around or take shots from the outside, couple that with blocking the shooting and passing lanes and it's lead to a ton of either outright breakaways for me, or 2 on 1's going the other way.

This is what has sold me on the game this year, and part of what keeps me on superstar even with the speed help the CPU gets in the demo. I have to play positionally sound hockey and actually look for open players in the neutral zone or be forced to dump and chase to set up an offensive attack. When you add that sticklifts aren't an automatic possession change this year and I'm happy with the challenge the game is going to bring this year based on being able to tone down the speed advantage and tape to tape passing of the cpu via sliders.

I'm sorry, when you wrote "aformentioned speed advantage" did you mean for skating speed or passing speed?

I'm playing on superstar hardcore too and I don't feel my cpu teammates are as aware as their counterparts. Does anyone know it that is suppose to be the difference in levels for this game? I want to play with an level playing field but, i also want the highest level of hockey intelligence I can get?

Skating, Redshirt mentioned they had a bit of a speed advantage in 09 but this window has been tuned to be less in 10 and is tweakable since we now have seperate CPU sliders. The CPU does not use hardcore passing but with a seperate cpu pass accuracy slider along with the player attribute slider it should allow to tune the CPU into being a bit more error prone on passing.

That very well might be the difference, I have no inside knowledge to say one way or another, I do think our own cpu teamates are much better positionally this year but without knowing how much the aggression sliders affects the gameplay its hard to say.

The other thing I've noticed and have actually made a habit to pay attention to the last couple days is how quickly the CPU AI adjusts to your habits. I think that window is less this year, where last year it would take the CPU teams a period or two to catch on to your breakout and offensive zone setup tendencies, it seems to make adjustments alot more quicker and more often based on what the score is and what your strat settings are vs what it's settings are.

For example I notice that if I have my breakout strategy to standard or conservative, I notice my cpu teammates do a much better job of staying in my own defensive end and not breaking up ice until the puck is safely out of the zone. Leads me to believe using the proper strat settings pending on the current situation is going to be alot more important this year as well.
