On the MLB Network Tom Verducci has just said that Alex Rios had to pass through all the AL teams first before any NL teams (like the Mets) get a chance at him, and he didn't get through them all. So this info pretty much confirms that it was definitely an AL team that claimed Rios.

I hear it's probably Chicago but if it's Boston I pull Rios off waivers and don't even make a trade.
