Can this really happen?

I am not in the running for a national title but as of right now Oklahoma is. The problem is they are ranked #2 in the BCS but are not going to play in the Big 12 championship. I am sure that if you dont win your conference you can not play for the national title. I am kind of scared to go to the next week because I dont want to see this happen. Would not be a game killer for me but would definitely bother me. Has anyone else seem this?

Re: Can this really happen?

This can and has happened in real life. Nebraska played for a national title and did not even win the Big 12 North let alone the Big 12 title.

Was this during the BCS era? if it is possible then I am ok with it. I could have been wrong about the BCS rules.

Re: Can this really happen?

yes you can go to the national championship even if u are not conf champions, they considered making it a rule that you couldn't in the off season after UGA was left out when OSU played LSU, but decided to leave the rule as it was

Well, OU did the same thing a few years ago when they lost the conference championship game to KSU.

I've seen it a lot in previous versions of the game.

Re: Can this really happen?

It's happened a few times.

Nebraska in 2001 got blown out by Colorado, didn't even win their division of the conference and got to play Miami instead of Oregon, the Pac 10 champs. Let it be known that no team was beating the canes that year, but it's happened numerous times in the BCS Era.

I personaly think only conference champs can play for the national title because if you aren't even the best team in your conference, how can you truly be the best team in the country?

A couple years back Ohio State and Michigan almost played for a National Title.
