Is there a way to set-up a match only with a known friend?

The only way we were able to find/fight each other was to set-up a "quick match", and keep bouncing competitors until we found each other.

There must be a better way? (PS3 player)

me and my buddy have been trying to figure this out also, so hopefully someone can help me out to!!!
