what does the game take into account during contract negotiations?

is it statistics, overall rating, age, or what?

i have a question with those potential ratings. so say a player with a 70 potential reaches that rating but he has a string of monster seasons and will become a free agent. if the game only takes the overall ratings into account, would that mean he'll only get paid like a 2nd stringer when his statistics say he's a superstar?

also can the potential rating move at all with coaching changes and stuff and performance?

Now these are good questions. I honestly don't know but I hope there is more interactions with a player during free agency and resignings. I should be able to make promises to a player kind of like in NCAA. I could promise them we win the division, get him help on offense/defense, get a wr a qb, get a qb a wr, and the list goes on and on.

Also your team should be a factor during free agency. A stud receiver typically doesn't go to a team that doesn't have quarterback (there are always those exceptions though). Also like we mentioned before an older player should typically sign with a team that has a great chance to win a Super Bowl.

From what we have heard, potential is set in stone, so even if a 70 overall/70 potential guy has a monster year, he will not go up (although, there is something flawed with ratings if a 70 overall guy is even capable of a monster year).

Thats a good question about contract negotiations though. From past Maddens it did seem that the guys with the highest overall got paid the highest, regardless of production. Hopefully in future maddens, there are a lot of factors that go into player demands.

i hear what you're saying about a 70 overall guy having a big year. but what if that player is on your team and you put him in all the right situations and he does have a good year? if he's an upcoming free agent and you do sign him to a small deal even when he's been the workhorse for the team, wouldn't that be kinda cheating if you're looking for a realistic franchise experience?

Does it not contain a production grade if it is made by the NFL Head Coach guys. BAsically if someone performed consistently well their overall increased beyond their potential but I don't know how it worked.

I remember being unable to drop Leinart because a couple of monster seasons pushed his OVR to 92 (his original potential was 86) despite the fact I had a stud rookie. Would be awesome to see it there.
