Dunking in 2k10

I'm a little concerned with dunking in 2k games. Like how an aged Stephon Marbury, who is 32 years old and hasn't dunked since 2005, has a 66 dunk rating and someone like Chris Duhon, who is in his prime and has dunked at least once every season over the last 3 years, is incapable of dunking with a 59 dunk rating. (and why is Ramon Sessions a 53 dunk rating when he attempted 14 dunks this past season?)

I've been wanting 2k to let Chris Duhon dunk in their game, and I understand peoples argument against it. But my perspective is that if Duhon can dunk in a real NBA game, he should be able to dunk in a video game.

Now, I really hope 2k would consider this idea that these little guys who have small dunk ratings, give them some sort of chance to dunk in the game. Like maybe give them the ability to dunk if the crowd is hyped, your team has all the momentum, then that small guy has enough momentum to go up for a dunk but in all other instances, are incapable of dunking if there is no momentum, nothing to get them hyped up enough to do it.

I've always felt that dunking is something special, something exciting. Some of the best moments in the NBA are when a small guy, who doesn't usually dunk, somehow manages to flush one down unexpectedly. I want that same feeling in an NBA game. Even with the guys that are casual dunkers, lets not let them dunk at will... lets make it so that a dunk in traffic isn't as common and actually feels more special when it actually does happen. It's nice when an actual dunk gets you on your feet rather than being something you see a bunch of times in every single game.

Duhon doesn't have 5 dunks to his NBA Resume. He should NOT be able to dunk on command (when open).

Re: Dunking in 2k10

I both agree and disagree.

First things first, we need to establish that this is a videogame and I have control over what my players do. Duhon has shown the ability to dunk in games so I want that same ability in a videogame.

On the other hand, I agree with you on not wanting to see him dunking whenever he wants. I don't want to see Duhon dunking in every game either. But I've always been an advocate for ability over tendency. I think that if someone shows they have the ability to do something in a real NBA game, then they should have the same ability in the videogame.

That is why I think they should have some sort of way to let these little guys have one of these rare dunking moments in the game. Maybe 2k could let Duhon dunk only on a particular occassion, such as him having a lot of stamina, running at full speed and his team must have momentum to hype him up for the dunk. And make it so that if even one of those three things (stamina, speed, momentum) are absent, then he should not be able to dunk the ball.

I mean, look at these guys...

- Mo Williams has not even dunked once over the last two NBA seasons and he has a 65 dunk rating.

- Stephon Marbury is old and hasn't dunked in the NBA since 2005, yet he has a 66 dunk rating.

- Jarrett Jack (Duhon's cousin) had the same amount of dunk attempts this season than Duhon yet he gets a 65 dunk rating and Duhon gets a 59 dunk rating.

- Devin Harris has a 79 dunk rating yet only dunked the same amount as Chris Duhon did this season. With the type of season Harris had, you'd have thought he'd have more.

- My favourite player, Jamal Crawford, has an 84 dunk rating and I don't even remember the last time he did a good dunk. He didn't dunk at all this season and the few dunks he had last season were almost layups. Least the ones I can remember... correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd like the small peoples dunk tendency to be the same as a putback dunk.

Yeah, that would be fine with me... because we don't see putback dunks all the time. I've probably only ever done somewhere around 10 putback dunks out of 700 games played, heh.

I feel you. And I like the whole idea. As long as they make the dunks look realistic, you know like a "little guy getting up there" type of dunk if you know what I'm saying.

I also wish they can make it so players dont do 360's and windmill's in traffic on 3 guys

Or better yet the putback dunk for guards. Yesterday I was playing CH 2k8 and a PG with standing dunk, dunk, and off rebound ratings under 50 had a putback dunk. In CH 2k8 the ratings are on a 1-100 scale but of the ratings are above 50. That was one of the rarest and oddest things I have seen in any 2k basketball game.
