Should Players Transitioning Lose Awareness Ratings?

Was thinking about how it takes defenders time to switch from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and how they have to learn new techinque.

Should a player like Aaron Kampman lose awareness points since he's now in a new system he's never played under?

What about the players who actually excell under the new system. Not every player who transitions to a new system struggles.

Re: Should Players Transitioning Lose Awareness Ratings?

interesting idea....i've always felt that once trading for new players or F.A. signings there should be some sort of transitional phase.

For example if you trade for a QB, the playbook should be limited and week by week you should be able to use more and more plays, or awareness rating should drop, just as they learn the new scheme/system.

it would add the realism of fitting into the new team's system and learning the nuances.

I play Demarcus Ware as a DE in the dime packages. I don't think he should take an awareness hit, since he does that in real life. Although tbh I don't remember it being a large hit.

edit: well, this was a bit offtopic , but I'm still right.

To answer both of you:

YES.

They should lose AWR points. However, they might be better suited for the position and do quite well.

Maybe for the first month of the season. Learning a totally different playbook and getting complete comfortable with it takes time. If the two playbooks are from the same offense(Brad Childress & Andy Reid), there shouldn't be a hit at all.

I think it would make sense for them to lose awareness, but maybe can gain points back during the off-season.

Say if they transition then have a decent season they gain points in the off-season, but if they don't do as well they stay where they are as far as ratings or go down.....

Re: Should Players Transitioning Lose Awareness Ratings?

I think HCs playbook knowledge and play learning are probably the best way to handle most of that. It would be great if they could break down a players knowledge to his knowledge of a position within a play and also if you had more control over which plays are practiced and who they are practiced by. The awareness this could be a decent bandaid for the time being except that awareness really doesn't effect on field play.
